Games go south for different causes. Curious to see what killed us in our 3 losses so I went to the morgue. I'm no pathologist, but play one on football forums. Here, my conclusions.
1. TB, L, 19-3
Cause of Death: Still birth.
This was a ultimately a pseudo preseason game. Today's NFL coaches don't want to risk injury in preseason matches when a grueling 17-game march looms. Dallas played two rookies along the offensive line, while non-NFL caliber Dennis Houston and Simi Fehoko were forced into action at receiver. Dak wasn't tuned, team wasn't ready. Untimely birth...little fight...quick death.
2. Philly, L, 26-17
Cause of Death: Untimely Pedestrian Freeway Crossing.
Contrary to common thought, Philly's run game didn't maul Dallas in week 6. Eagles tallied just 268 total yards and gained only 3.4 yards per carry. The issue was our pedestrian QB, who'd been "on the street" without a job 6 weeks earlier. Rush lacked the skill to navigate superb Philly corners, and threw 3 critical interceptions. Backup QBs playing good teams on the road in tough venues... **** happens. Didn't help that the refs threw 500% more flags on Dallas (10-2 penalty differential). After four straight wins Rush needed to cross an 8 lane freeway on foot. Couldn't make it. He had some moments in previous games, maybe saved a season, but Rush Hour Over.
3. Packers, L , 31-28
Cause of Death: Poorly Managed Blood Pressure.
Fox Network's pre-game announcer reported that Coach McCarthy woke up at 4 am and went to Starbucks 3 times before he showed up to Lambeau on Sunday November 13. Mike started the day stressed. Three dark-roasted Ventis and multiple rounds of eggbites somehow failed to calm. Sure seemed flustered in a pre-game interview. Big Mac seemed to set the tone for a jittery team.
Cowboys were too often flustered, especially Kelvin Joseph and Anthony Brown. The Pack gained half their yards on just 7 splash plays. How those hurt! Unheralded Christian Watson went off for 107 yards and 3 TDs. Something about Green Bay just seems to put Dallas in a stressful lather, even for the head coach who once made a home there. Poor third down poise (just 5-15 converted), 200% penalty yardage differential (83-40) and some curious occasions where zebras swallowed their whistle...sealed the loss.
This morgue stinks. I'm out.
