So those of you that think you have it all figured it out on how the Cowboys run the draft, go listen to Mike Fishers show today and listen to the audio clip of the FO discussing what to do with 2 minutes left before the pick is due.

Id say listen to the entire show as I think it is outstanding, but for the clip only start listening at about the 7:40 mark for the short audio clip. I apologize if this was posted, I didnt see it.

Im not a fan of Fish but the last two minutes does tell us Will, Jerry and McCarthy discuss the pick. If Kincaid was their guy they were not going to cry about it during the whole time the we're picking. To me Mazi should of been the pick regardless if Kincaid was there.

All it tells us is that when the cowboys were on the clock, they were making a choice between Bergeron and Mazi. McLay argued for Mazi.

The clip tells us nothing about Kincaid b/c the cowboys have 10 minutes to make a selection and there is no time to lament. I heard the Buffalo GM on NFL radio this morning, he knew the Cowboys needed a TE and that's why they moved up. They did not want to take a chance of losing their guy. The Cowboys never had "a guy". They have a draft board and they follow it. They had 3 guys graded the same. We don't know for sure if the 3rd guy was Kincaid.

  • Mike says both are good
  • Jerry say he doesn’t want to lose them (trade back)
  • McClay made an argument for Mazi due to scarcity
But the inference has been that Dan Quinn is very much in Will McClay’s ear and holds a lot of sway (more than others). Maybe he does, maybe he doesnt.

And “cap boy” has not done a good job. He’s been bailed out by great drafting but we consistently over pay our guys and mismanage negotiations.

McLay's argument was Mazi is a day one starter and helps the team in 2023. Bergeron would be drafting a position of depth and probably doesn't help the team in 2023.

Jerry sought out his advice and took it, period. Yall can ignore it all you want, but it doesn't change the facts.

McClay must go on vacation to a remote island with no reception and doesnt realize Tyron will be in the training room shortly after the season starts if he makes it out of training camp. LOL

Well, Tyron is apparently healthy enough at the moment to give the Cowboys FO confidence that he can start next year.

ATM he is everytime this time of year. Maybe hell take training camp off so we can have him week 1. I know this we dont have a more injury prone player in terms of frequencies despite all he has done for the organization. The impact of his missed games are always felt. Continuity is important.

And the Cowboys addressed that last year in round 1 of the draft. We now have Tyron insurance. But Steele went down too and that messed the whole plan up. You can only plan for so many calamities.

I'm jealous of Stephen. I wish I made millions doing a job I know I'd never get fired from, despite how bad I'm doing.
