Show him some moves to get to the QB and this guy will be a monster.
I get what you are saying about slow to react.Sam Williams has started slow. He looks slow at times or at least slow to react. I thought the same thing about Parsons last year in preseason.
That being said Williams is ridiculously strong for a rookie. He can set an edge as good as anyone I’ve ever seen. This makes him more than a pass rush specialist. He’s actually a better run defender than pass rusher right now. If his pass rush develops he may be very special and a huge steal in the second round.
Gregory had ridiculous pass rush potential and he teased us with it when he was available.Eh. He's no Randy Gregory though.
Sam Williams is actually both very good at run stopping and rushing the passer. So many times he has been so close from getting to the QB. It's just a matter of time. He's still learning new pass rush techniques, getting adjusted to the speed of the game, strength of opposing linemen, and the playbook. He's gotten better every preseason game. Cowboys need to start him Week 1. Unleash him. You've got 2 weeks to get him better prepared. He's the better talent by far than what Armstrong or any other veteran right DE we currently have. Don't hold him back. Trust in him like we trusted in Micah. Unleash the beast.Sam Williams has started slow. He looks slow at times or at least slow to react. Randy Gregory had an early season four game streak where he dominated. After that, he flat disappeared.
Games 4-7:
5 Sacks
6 Solo Tackles
3 TFL
11 QB Hits
2 Forced Fumbles
The Rest of the Season: (8 games played, 5 games did not play)
1 Sack
9 Solo Tackles
1 TFL
6 QB Hits
1 Forced Fumble
Randy Gregory played like an All Pro for a quarter of a season, and he played like a roster bubble player for the remainder. This was the culmination of five years of suspensions, counseling programs and unprecedented patience.
It won't be long before all that regret and disappointment of losing him melts away like ice cream in a frying pan. I predict that Randy Gregory will be a distant memory by October of this year and the #1 reason is the 3rd great #54 in Cowboys history.
