That picture is really worth a thousand words.

He was pretty young his rookie season. Some guys will fill out in their 20s. Look at a picture of him from about his 4th year in and that may be more representative of his true body. Then look at a picture of him a couple of years ago. Big difference. Same thing with Mark McGwire. Both guys changed and a lot of the change came in their bodies came in their 30s.

I disagree somewhat about McGwire. He was always huge and you could just tell by looking at him that his frame could fill out.

Bonds on the hand was built very similar to his father when he was 27-29. The mass didn't come from genetics.

Coincidentally, me too!:D

And I don't even want to talk how much it has changed in my mid 40's.

It is questionable. Palmeiro seemed to change less physically than either Bonds or McGwire and he is the one who actually failed a test.

Like I heard yesterday on the radio, Bonds probably did use steroids and he did at a time when it wasn't against the rules of baseball. We may not like it, but by the definitions of MLB, he and others weren't cheating. It isn't that big a deal to me in the sense that I don't think Bonds should be banned or have an official asterisk by his name. He will live with the stigma and I will always think of Hammerin Hank and the Babe as the best home run hitters of all time. I think many will keep their own personal asterisks besides Bonds numbers as well as a few other players.

Technically, steroids were banned by MLB as soon as they fell under the Controlled Subtances Act but they were banned in writing by Fay Vincent in 1991.

They weren't tested for but they were illegal and against the rules of baseball while Bonds was using.
