Today is the biggest day in Baylor basketball history. As I look back on the 60+ years I’ve been following , my thoughts gravitate to my father who begun taking me to games at the old Heart of Texas Coliseum when I was about 5 or 6.

In this those early years we didn’t have any tournament appearances but we had some greats like Vinnie Johnson and Teague who both had some success in the NBA.

The last time Baylor was in the Final 4 was 1950 when the tournament was a shell of itself now. My father was still attending Baylor.

Some of my best memories with my father was attending sporting events whether it was Baylor or Cowboy games . Those early SWC basketball tournaments in Dallas where some of the greatest memories. Baylor never won one but we still enjoyed the environment including all of the great Final 4 teams we saw including the Razorbacks and Cougars.

Being a Baylor fan all of these years has come full circle as we never expected the opportunity to play for a National Championship coming from a private Baptist university. The closer we ever came in football was with Coach Briles when Bears were left out of College playoff after being ranked #4 tying the conference championship with TCU.

So tonight, my emotions will be full culminating a lifetime of fandom following an Alma mater for 3 generations in my family with my father and grandmother. The only championships I’ve enjoyed up to now were just conference championships like Baylor Football “ miracle on the Brazos” with Teaff which was first SWC title in 50 years. And of course their more recent titles under Briles.

I enjoyed all of the championships with the Cowboys. Another reminder how my fandom has come full circle with one of the most dormant schools in the country to now a serious contender to my pro team becoming more of a dormant team.

I’ll truly cherish this game tonight however it turns out. And be reminiscing of a lifetime of Baylor hoops.
