BB: Team scouts thinks media has Jermaine Johnson II to high

It’s a good sign when a player gets better every year in college. It’s also a good sign when a player can excel at 2 different schools/schemes.

Many media scouts have him as a late first, early second. It is possible he falls in our range due to the depth at the position
Has talent, pass rushers our all over the place. I think the Cowboys could actually get a good on with their second round pick. Hopefully we keep Gregory and Tank then add one in the second round.

Brugler has him at 26.........

BTW......it's early but who ya taking if both Green and Johnson at 24?

I think there is going to be a big drop off after rd 2 at both guard/tackle and defensive end. Right now that seems most logical depending how the board shakes out

I don't think the media has him going too high. I'm constantly seeing him mocked to a team after our pick. If anything I only see draft fans mocking him in the top 10 or going in the first half of the draft.

This draft stinks when it comes to top end players. I think the Cowboys need to draft the best player on the board at 24, let’s not reach for need.

I'd probably go with Johnson......just think it's easier to find an impact G in 2nd than DE. Not to mention every draft has a couple/few 2nd round plug and play Gs.

You're probably right ........

Arnold Ebiketie, edge, Penn State is my pet cat, so if I could get Green 1st round and have to settle for him at 56, hell I'm happy as a jaybird (lol)

That Would be the smarter long term move due to cost for that position.

If what Broaddus is saying is accurate I could believe it.

I’m a Johnson fan and like him better than T. Walker (Bruglar is higher on), but see where he needs some refinement.

Johnson (right now) has only one go-to pass rush move, which is the outside speed rush and double-hand chop. That’s a move that D-Law uses a lot but also varies it with other moves in his arsenal. Johnson needs to add to his repertoire and that takes time but it’s not impossible.

Surprisingly, the one area that I think is a real strength is playing the run and setting the edge. He plays really stout and has a strong punch. He uses his long arms to create distance and plays off the block. Was impressed with that aspect of his game.

The problem with this is Jerry hasn't used a 1st on a DT since Russell Maryland. I do see or would like to see, the first two picks DE and/or OL.

I think they would have taken Vita Vea that one year. Their idea for taking a DT high in the draft is they have to be able to get to the passer. They would not take a DT in the first if they were just a 2 down plugger. However if they see JJ as pass rusher...they have taken pass rushers in the first multiple times with Ware, Spears (even though he was not a pass rusher), Spencer, Taco, Ellis, Carver, Ekuban and recently Micah even though he is a LB they knew he had pass rushing ability.

You know, I didn't realize we have starters at six positions who will be free agents.......WR, S, LBer, LG, DE, TE As you know, we like filling most, if not all with free agents (bargains) before the draft to avoid having any holes. Five is a lot, be interesting to see how it shakes out.

You would think:

-WR is addressed in house with either Cooper or Gallup staying and either Wilson/Turner resigning.
-As for linebacker, I think they will try to keep Lve, but he will find a better deal, fa starter will be signed. Cannot see them handing the job to Cox off major injury and lack of experience.
-TE they have to make a decision on who to keep Shultz or Jarwin and look to add another via fa and or the draft.
-I have a strong sense Connor is gone, but don't think they sign a fa here. Have McGovern, Collins as fallback options.
-If either Gregory or DLaw is gone, you would have to think they sign a stop gap, veteran starter and draft a future starter.
-They still have Wilson under contract who can play either spot, if Kearse leaves they will probably sign a low level fa starter.

In my opinion, everything sets up for the draft needing to address three priorities, in no particular order: DE, LG and WR.
