Bengals not alone in QB Russell interest

Thank god I did not grow up a fan of this team. There is a reason they have been horrible for decades.:laugh2:

Free agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell(notes) was some kind of humongous bust with the Oakland Raiders, getting paid, in the end, $100,000 per completed pass and $5.6 million for each win during his time with the team, according to the Los Angeles Times.

But that apparently isn't stopping other teams from being interested in signing the 24-year-old, though nobody is going to give him any kind of dough close to what the 2007 first-overall pick got from Raiders owner Al Davis.

The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that there is a lot of talk that the Cincinnati Bengals may want to sign Russell and fix him up, like all of its other recent reclamation projects (read: the man they call Pacman, Adam Jones(notes)).

But the Bengals aren't alone, according to the paper. The Bengals are apparently "among a handful of teams who have inquired about the former Oakland quarterback," according to the paper.

"Handful of other teams"

Translation: we hope there are other teams out there who would consider him so we don't look idiotic by ourselves.

Hey, Dallas signed a seriously done Ryan Leaf once upon a time, so it wouldn't be too shocking to see some team take a chance on Russell.

This isn't terribly suprising. If players like Couch, Akili Smith, Leaf, and other collosal QB busts can get 2nd looks, then obviously someone like Russell will as well.

None of them weighed over 9000 pounds.
