Im going with Richards. Bass was playable filling in last season, but is he a plus starter? I think Richards has the talent to be a high level LG. I think he has the traits and skill set to be able to block 3T pass rushers. Add upper body strength though is a big need for him. I dont see it happening here, as we seem to be keeping him at OT, and we have Tyler at LG. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Richards emerge somewhere else as a quality LG

Richards . Cowboys targeted him in the draft and had him penciled in as an eventual starter.

Richards you have as a Tackle or a guard?

I'm going with Bass purely as I think it's easier to be a "plus" guard than it is becoming a "plus" tackle.
Well I see OG as his best position, but the club seems to be keeping him at OT. I think him becoming a starter is something that will probably happen somewhere else. I don't know that I see him being a average starter at OT, let alone a plus one

Bass....but i also think highly of Richards though. But Bass at RG with Richards swing tackle.

Nathan Thomas still needs to show me, too early to tell.

not really as a guard I would take Bass but you're right Richards has the body and the talent to possibly be a tackle though not a guard he was not being used at all inside he is going to be a tackle,,, I'm not sure about the third guy isn't he the undrafted free agent or something how are we supposed to judge these players this soon I don't know,,, but just off last year you have to go with bass the dude literally played in two games and he looked pretty solid from both those games but inside as a guard Richards with battle for a tackle spot somewhere down the road so I think both of them will make it we haven't seen the other guy so who knows....

Centers Beebee and Hoffman
Guards Martin, Tyler smith, Bass
Tackles Guyton, Steele, Edoga , and Richards

Possible cuts Wally and Ball

the rest, TBD its what camps for and PS hope the youngins get a lot of work.

I picked Bass but I also think Richards has a chance to
replace Steele once he's finished stealing Jerry's money.

The Cowboys have a lot of Day 3 options sitting behind the assumed starters. Terence Steele is the one guy who has blossomed into a starter, but he regressed last year coming off an injury, after having a very good year in 2022. Also, Biadasz was a 4th round pick that played well for the Cowboys for 4 seasons.

On Day 3 of the draft, including the undrafted players also signed later that same day after the draft finished, here are some options:

2021 4th round pick - OG Josh Ball - Ball failed at Tackle, but was having a decent preseason playing right guard in 2023 before getting injured yet again

2022 5th round pick- OT Matt Waletzko - Waletzko has been injured in preseason both of the last two seasons. He hasn’t played football, other than practice, since 2021.

2023 5th round pick - OL Asim Richards - got very little playing time in regular season games. Not sure if he projects as a Guard or Tackle.

2024 7th round pick - OT Nathan Thomas - will compete as a rookie for a roster spot

2018 undrafted (by Jets) - OT Dakoda Shepley - journeyman backup player

2022 undrafted (by Browns) - C Brock Hoffman - started multiple games as injury replacement for Biadasz in 2023.

2023 undrafted - OT Earl Bostick, Jr. - Bostick spent 2023 on the practice squad after being a highly sought after undrafted player a year ago.

2023 undrafted - OG T.J. Bass - made the 53-man roster as a rookie, and started multiple games as an injury replacement during 2023 season.

The list above doesn’t include the top 6 projected offensive linemen for the Cowboys:

2014 1st round pick - OG Zack Martin
2019 3rd round pick - OL Chuma Edoga
2020 undrafted - Terence Steele
2022 1st round pick - OG Tyler Smith
2024 1st round pick - OT Tyler Guyton
2024 3rd round pick - C Cooper Beebe

maybe we can trade one of those undrafted guys for a RB or DT,hope they play well in pre season.

I think it has to be bass only because he will have a better chance to play. Richards might be the better prospect but something tells me he will wind up playing somewhere else before he plays for Dallas. Bass will replace Zack Martin next year.

If Steele has another bad season I’d like to see him pushed off the team with one of these guys

I think Bass because of opportunity. Unless Guyton struggles, Richards doesn't really have a chance of starting here at tackle, and Bass appears to be ahead of him in the guard pecking order. Thomas is a wild card since we are moving him to guard. He has nice size and power for the position, and his movement skills are good enough for the inside.

What is interesting to note is that the Cowboys have spent a Day 3 draft pick on an offensive linemen in each of the last 4 drafts. So far, none of them have panned out. Two of the starters from last year were in the 2020 rookie class: Biadasz and Steele. Other undrafted players such as Hoffman and Bass have started games.

What is clear is that the Cowboys are committed to trying to find offensive lineman on the 3rd day of the draft, but that undrafted free agents have nearly as much chance to make an impact as most 3rd day picks. Only Biadasz has turned into a starter in the last 4 seasons from a pick in rounds 4-7. That is a 25% hit rate.

Meanwhile, they got a full-time starter, and one back-up player from the undrafted ranks. They have signed 6 undrafted rookie olinemen they signed since 2020 immediately after the draft, but the hit rate for is 1 for 6, for a 17% hit rate on undrafted free agents becoming starters, and a 33% hit rate for rookie undrafted free agents becoming contributors. This includes years 2020-2023.

(Brock Hoffman was initially signed by Cleveland in 2022, so I'm not counting him. He joined the Cowboys practice squad in the Fall of 2022.)

Richards is 6'4" 310 with plus movement skills... he went 5th round because he's light in the pants and doesn't have NFL power. The thing is, most college linemen don't, so that's hardly disqualifying. It takes a couple years of pro weight training and some NFL "vitamins" to get young linemen to that level.

He has starter-level lateral agility, which can't be trained and can't be coached. The hit rate for OLmen with a sub-7.80 3 cone is fantastic, and he's there. Just needs some time in the weight room.

I think Richards might follow a Connor Williams or Connor McGovern type career trajectory, where it just comes together for him around year 3 or 4.

Bass! Maybe not in this current system (inside zone/man) but everything points to him being a plus starter as a RG for any team running an outside zone!

Richards looks like he can a stop gap starter and swing tackle for several years. Someone who won’t stop you from picking up someone better if the opportunity arises but you won’t be wetting yourself if he has to start for a season.

Thomas there’s nothing on to make any sort of prediction. He looks a bit stiff and slow to play anything other than a man scheme!

Bass all the way on this one. I’m biased because he’s one of my pet cats but I’m really impressed how he played when he came during last year.
