Big Ben's head injuries to blame?

This op-ed piece on SI claims that Big Ben's concussions and motorcycle crash are to blame for his raping ways.

"My specialty is frontal lobes," he says, referring to the part of the brain involved in regulating a person's judgment, inhibition and social behavior. "A person with damage might not read the intentions of a woman at a bar very well, for example," Grafman says. "They might succumb to more primitive urges instead of saying, 'I shouldn't do this because it affects my career.'"

According to Grafman, two particular behaviors are endemic to people with moderate or severe frontal lobe injury, or to people with more mild but repetitive injury: 1) violating social rules by saying inappropriate things, and 2) saying appropriate or typical things in an inappropriate context.

As this week's SI story reports, Roethlisberger seems to have failed some of his personal versions of the marshmallow test, not only by engaging in impulsive behavior, but by returning to helmetless motorcycle riding within months of the accident that nearly killed him.

If doctors do decide that Roethlisberger's misconduct was spurred by brain trauma, the deeper question for the NFL will be determining whether to fault the motorcycle accident or the battering that he has taken on the field -- 242 sacks and at least four concussions. If doctors suggest that Roethilisberger's social development is stunted, and that hits he has taken on the field are, at least in part, responsible, imagine the instances of football players' inappropriate behavior that might be viewed in a new light.

As far as I'm concerned it's ridiculous to blame Ruthlessraper's criminal actions on concussions and motorcycle crashes. His idiotic decision making is evident before all that, by riding a motorcycle w/o a helmet in the first place. In addition, I'm pretty sure that Aikman has had more concussions than Ruthlessraper, yet Aikman is a stand up guy and hasn't pulled a Ruthlessraper. In the end the blame does not lay with the injuries suffered on the field but instead within the man's ethics.

I would find all of this much more believable had there not been rumors of similar behavior while he was at Miami of Ohio.

Sorry, Barnum was not talking about me when he said that there was one born every minute.

They are flawed in which head they are analyzing the judgement of.

Title should be grasping at straws. A dirt bag is a dirt bag. BTW a poll in the Pittsburgh papers, 60 percent want him gone.

This kind of stuff is not limited to the front lobe. Injuries to the temporal lobe can cause a dramatic change in personality. Also, it depends on, which portion of the frontal lobe is damaged. One area, if damaged can reduce sexual interest.

I think this is plausible. That doesn't mean it is true in Big Ben's case. There would need to be some intensive studies of his brain among other things to determine if this is the reason.

I can buy that I bumped my head once and had the urge to rape. :laugh2:
It was a minor bump so the urge went away quickly. :laugh2:

And let the women he raped hit him in the head until the condition corrects itself.

That is not the head thats to blame.

I had a grade III concussion boxing my freshman year in college and I've never touched a girl without her consent.

It's conceivable it's true, most likely that it's not, and absolutely the case that we wouldn't be hearing about this if Rottenburger's camp didn't need to muddy the waters up some.

And if there are examples of the same sort of behavior from before the mentioned events, that even lessens their credibility.

Sad part is for enough money you can get a doctor to say anything to defend your client. I'm sure Ben representative will find some doctor who will say it was not Ben's fault.
