Big "STAR" - smaller "star" on helmet?

I noticed on someone's avatar that Roger had a helmet on with a larger STAR on it....

whats the story... did we go smaller as years went on?

Helmets a bit bigger these days due to better padding. I have no idea whether the size of the star has changed or not. I suppose it is not only possible but probable.
