Why didnt he sign a 3 year extension. Next year when we are in playoff contention Bill is going to be aske the same b/s questions as this year.... he will be going into the last year of his contract... then what?

you can be 90% sure that if next year we dont reach the playoffs, parcells isnt coming back!

My point is... if around the same time next(as it happened this year) we are in the running and the media idiots start asking about going into last year of contract and plan on staying or not... its not good for team....

The team doesnt listen to the "media idiots" just the fickle fans do. :D

It might be that Parcells plans on 2006 being his last season. So, rather than having to answer questions or deal with this, Jerry added a year.

At this stage of the game, the question of retirement is an issue that will follow Parcells at the end of every season. In fact, the same thing happened with the Jets.

I'd have no problem with this IF there was a clear cut successor already in the assistant's ranks. There isn't.

Thats the truth. Another wait and see I guess.

Mornin' Dave...

Well in NY, he had little Bill in the ranks, ready to take over when he left. It didn't work out that way but that was the plan. BUT he also had other talented assistants, like Al Groh, who eventually took over.

This gives Jerry plenty of time to coax Jimmy Johnson out of retirement.

Mornin Juke.

I dont know if Payton could step up or not when Parcells retires, but I'm strarting to think it wont matter. Payton I think, is going to the big easy.

If thats the case we might need Parcells to live out the next two years. Jones just scares the hell out of me when chosing about anything.:

If the Cowboys don't make the Playoffs next year than honestly I wish Bill would go ahead and retire and not come back because in my opinion he would have had four years to turn this team into a playoff team and only made the playoffs his first season, which in my opinion was the worst team hes had in the four years. If he retires my push would be for a Jimmy Johnson return which I could definitely see happening. Jerry likes to make media splashes and Jimmy has stated when asked if there is one owner he would like to Coach for, he stated Jerry Jones....hint hint hint

Oh c'mon now. Once Bill's gone Jerry will probably just promote Todd Bowles or Haley to HC. Need to keep that continuity in place .

There's a better chance Jimmy Hoffa comes back before Jimmy Johnson does.

Bill is only sticking around to get back in the tournament as to not go out on a whimper.
