I have noticed in a large amount of posts concerning W.Phillips,or even the situation in San Diego, that Parcells name keeps coming up.
And alot of those posts have comments about how Phillips will or will not have the same amount of authority as "SAINT BILL".
Can't we all ,just for the sake of argument, agree that EVERY COWBOY WIN and EVERY GOOD COWBOY PLAYER aquired in the last 4 years was because of "SAINT BILL" ,and every loss and every bad player aquired was because of Jerry Jones ?
I also feel that it was Jerry's fault that "SAINT BILL" held the "BOYS hostage every year about coming back.

I thought every lose over the past 4 years was either Zimmer's or Payton's fault.

But, I guess, since they are both gone, we need someone other than Parcells to blame.

I was hoping to blame TO!!

I do not agree with that for one second. They were joint decisions not just from Jerry and Bill but from the coaches involved in the decision making process. I hope you were sarcastic. If you were make sure you include something to indicate that you are other wise you just opened a can of worms here...

I noticed the sarcasim smily is gone...hahaha:laugh2:

Tut, tut! Open thine eyes.

***** "SAINT BILL" leaving is a blessing to this franchise !*********

You mean, we hope so.

Because the alternative is that Phillips fails miserably and we suck.

Could Phillips do worsethan Parcells? Of course, but as a Cowboys fan I have become spoiled. I EXPECT them to contend for a championship every year (realistically or not). To do that you have to start with winning a playoff game. In that respect it's impossible for Phillipsto do any worse than Parcells. Just getting there doesn't cut it for me. In fact, if we are going to makethe playoffs and lose in round one then I'd prefer not to make it at all and collect the higher draft pick.

Phillips has nothing to lose. He's following a HOF coach, who quite frankly, failed miserably (by both his own and the Cowboys standards). If/when Wade wins his first playoff game, then he'll have done in one year what Parcells couldn't do in four. Then all the naysayers will come along and say "he did it with Parcells team." Which will be true. But what will also be true is that Parcells couldn't win with that very same team.

Maybe phillips thinks he can pull a Gruden and take another playoff team that final step to the SB. Hopefully it works.
No matter how much some want to deny it- BP rebuilt the Boys from a national joke to a playoff team.
We all saw just how well JJ did as getting picks, etc before BP got here.
Look at the roster of 2002 and tell me just how much better this team is now.
Denying it does not make it untrue.

I place the blame squarley at Hostile's feet. This is all his fault

Don't get me wrong. I was as big of a Bill supporter as there was, and I agree 100% with your assesment of what Bill brought to the Cowboys. Especially as far as personel. It doesn't mask the fact that he was many times outcoached and the team overall underacheived (considering the talent assembled). Bill brought many things to the table and set this franchise in the right direction. Anyone hwo denies that is an idiot. But, at the end of the day, he won as many playoffs games as Campo.

Denying THAT doesn't make it untrue either, my friend.

Peace,

Don't forget to blame the kickers. Although that is sort of putting the blame on Parcells. I know some posters will never lay the blame on Bledsoe. And why not? He was perfect.

Lay the blame on Bledsoe?
I don't understand that statement.
Who brought Bledsoe in here ? Was it ,or was it not Parcells.Or do you lay that at J.Jones feet too.
Hey,i liked the Bledsoe signing at the time,still do,but you don't go to a resturant,order a hamburger,and get upset when when a steak isn't delivered !
Bledsoe was what he was,a stop-gap QB,near the end of his career, until a young QB was developed.
The problem(one of many) is that Parcells wanted ONE MORE GLORY YEAR,not for the team ,BUT FOR BILL PARCELLS.
Whenever he had a chance to give ROMO some playing experience,he REFUSED.
That includes towards the end of the Testeverde era, when (gulp) D.Hensen or Romo should have played, too see what they had,and MOST people AT THAT TIME agreed.
When he won with the Giants,HE DID NOT WANT P.SIMMS as his QB,he wanted S.Brunner (?).
And the man who shaped that Giant team was George Young, who was the GM.
And ,Paercells did not build the Patriot team, the GM's name escapes me now, that way Parcell left THEM,he wanted to do the SHOPPING.
He DID do the GM duties with the Jets, and had a darn good run to the AFC Championship GAME with them,BUT they never got any further with him there.
WAS he a darn good coach in his younger days (with B.Belichick always there),there is no aguing that, the record speaks for itself,BUT he did not BUILD those teams,BETTER personnal men than him did,HE COACHED THEM,and without Belichick,he can't even do that anymore.

From what I heard, sounds like Parcells did not accept or want advise from his coaches. We all heard the Hanson story about the former coach that when offered his opinion, Parcells said (paraphrase here) 'Your telling the 2 time superbowl coach how to coach'. I heard several interviews with former ccoaches that said Parcells was a mean old man with a bad attitude on a good day. SO I am not so sure the assistants had any input at all on the schemes or decisions. I have no first hand knowledge of the situation, but I did hear several interviews that painted Bill in a dark light. Sorta figured he was a curmudgeon, it fits the mental picture. But honestly, I am coming away with the impression Parcells is/was a dictator that thought he could do no wrong.

LOL..rw54...you are truly a wise old sage.,you have put this whole thread in a its true context.

He can no longer help or hurt the franchise, so what's the point?

Not necessarily true. His decisions could come back to bite us. Certainly his ignoring the Oline and trying to patchwork it has hurt us and can hurt us in the future. I think with Phillips being an Offensive coach he will immediately see the need to vastly upgrade the oline. That will make everything a little better immediately and a lot beter later down the road.
