Does it matter? I always thought the LOS only mattered if it were the offense trying to advance the ball, and the defense could advance either way.Did the kick travel past the LOS?
If it didn't pass the line of scrimmage it's considered a fumble. Either team can advance it. If it passed the line it's considered a missed field goal. A missed field goal can be advanced by the defense if it's caught (like a punt) or still rolling. Once the ball stops rolling it's considered a dead ball by the officials.
So the Leon Lett play would have been a dead play by today's rules. Because the ball had already stopped. IIRC.
Someone help me out was there a rule change that the defense can’t advance a blocked field goal attempt?
