Imagine, if you will, what this play would look like today. How would the victorious defender react? Probably, with chest-beating, dancing, crawling around on all-fours, hopping like a frog.

A record-setting 29-yard sack was just another day at the office for humble & unassuming "Mr. Cowboy"...who was simply doing his job.

I miss those days.

Big assist to Larry Cole on that play. He was really as responsible for the sack as Lilly, it's just that the last turn Griese made before Lilly & Cole caught up was toward Lilly. This is one of those plays indelibly etched in my brain.

Yeah me too, this was my first season and still one of the most memorable plays. I had to make a Cowboy hater friend watch this because he didnt believe me but he gave credit where do. To your question on how players would react, also anger. It amazes me the looks of anger on these players faces when they make a dunk or hit a home run, etc. They have these looks on their faces like EPH the world for what you have done to me to this point, I just scored and you can shove it now.

Its really weird.

Lilly & Cole were both incredibly quick! Griese didn't have a chance.

Bob Lilly wasn't that composed at the end of the previous Super Bowl.

After losing to the Baltimore Colts 16-13 on a last minute field goal by a rookie kicker, Bob Lilly took off his helmet and flung it as far as he could.

Super Bowl 6 was a day of redemption for Bob Lilly. After so many bitter disappointments, including the Ice Bowl, he was finally a champion.

Wow, offensive lineman were really limited in how they could block back then.

Our great defenses applied pressure from all directions. There was no escaping. Wish we had a defense that would step up in huge games like our great defenses did. We had several great players on defense during those years and they performed like it really mattered.

And the D could head slap; some of them put casts on their arms to do so. Brutal.
The whole game was much more brutal back then. Going across the middle for a WR was near suicide.
The hits they laid on the QB would get people in jail today

Bob Lilly will always be at the top of the list of Defensive Tackles to play this sport.Double or Triple Teamed on nearly every play of his career and still found a way to get Sacks, tackles on RB's and free up space for other guys to make plays. He was a dominant force that had the respect of his Teammates,Coaches and Opponents.

Coach Landry had the enduring quote about Lilly- "The Best Player I Ever Coached".

Great is the truly the best way to describe that Defense.8 Veteran Players(Lilly,Howley,Andrie,Edwards,Green,Jordan,Renfro and Pugh) 3 Younger Players(Cole,Harris and Waters) and a key acquisition in Adderley who made Coach Landry's Defense one of the best Units in NFL History.Every guy was important to that group and as You correctly stated, performed when it mattered most.

44 Points Allowed in the 6 Playoff Games during the 2 Super Bowl Runs in 1970 and 1971.

1971, team is 4-3, splitting plays between the slow footed but rocket armed Craig Morton, and Roger the Dodger, the scrambler with running back moves, the former Heisman award winner. Landry makes the right decision, finally. Roger takes control, ten consecutive wins and a Super Bowl victory. The greatest run in Cowboys' history.

Sumrall sounded reasonably sober that game.
