Lisa Gherardini is coming closer to emerging from the grave. The remains of the woman believed to have inspired Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa likely are about to be exhumed by researchers.

The announcement, at a news conference in Florence, follows the discovery of another skeleton, the fourth since the bone hunt began last year -- beneath an altar in the church of the now-derelict Convent of St. Orsola.

"The skeleton doesn't belong to the Mona Lisa, but it’s hinting to her burial. Indeed, she might be just underneath," Silvano Vinceti, president of a private organization known as the National Committee for the Promotion of Historic and Cultural Heritage, told a news conference on Wednesday.

It would be cool to see some forensic people reconstruct her face with clay or whatever it is they use.

You'd of course have to keep it a secret who you were and why you needed it so as to not influence their work but I would love to see the result.

Why disturb the dead for this? Have some respect. It's not like she is going to look that great now.

I understand they will try to reconstruct her appearance to see if that is in fact her ie Mona Lisa.

Exactly. It's disturbing that people even want to do that.

I agree..let her RIP.

There is such a fascination though with anything Leonardo. He has to be one of the most fascinating men ever.

That's funny considering many people believe that the woman depicted in Da Vinci's Mona Lisa painting is actually Da Vinci himself in drag. It has been long thought that Da Vinci was gay. He was definitely a very peculiar fellow.

I suppose they could dig him up at Chapel of Saint-Hubert, but then again; nobody is really sure if his remains are actually there. :)

Indeed. The dead should not be disturbed.

This is not something that is novel. Hopefully they will treat the remains respectfully.
