Receiver skipped mini-camp last weekend

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who to this point has skipped all of the Arizona Cardinals' offseason activities, will rejoin the team Monday to participate in the formal conditioning program, agent Drew Rosenhaus said on Friday evening.

Boldin, who in 2003 set a league record for most receptions by a rookie, is attempting to upgrade his contract and last weekend skipped the Cardinals' mini-camp.

"There are no promises from either side," Rosenhaus told ESPN.com. "It's a good faith thing and it's time for Anquan to get in there and begin conditioning with his teammates. We'll resume contract discussions at the appropriate time."

In 2003, Boldin signed a four-year, $2.58 million contract with Arizona, after his draft stock slipped because of pedestrian 40-yard times and he fell into the second round. Under the balance of that contract, he is scheduled to earn minimum base salaries of $380,000 for 2005 and $460,000 in 2006.

Cardinals officials acknowledged following Boldin's rookie season, he had outplayed his draft position and that the team might revisit his contract. There has been discussion between Rosenhaus and vice president of football operations Rod Graves, but a deal has yet to be struck.

Coach Dennis Green last weekend exhibited some frustration in talking with the local media about Boldin's offseason absence. Disappointed by a 6-10 record in '04, Green has demonstrated no reluctance to jettison players who do not buy into his program, although it is unlikely the Cardinals would send Boldin packing.

With Boldin and former first-round selections Larry Fitzgerald and Bryant Johnson, the Cardinals certainly possess an excellent corps of talented young wide receivers. Green is hopeful that the offseason addition of quarterback Kurt Warner, a two-time league MVP, will upgrade a passing game that statistically ranked No. 24 in 2004. But he also knows it is important to have all the components in place for offseason workouts.

"Anquan is aware of that and he is anxious to get in there," Rosenhaus said. "The other matters will take care of themselves."

A former Florida State star, Boldin was the 54th player chosen overall in the '03 draft but quickly served notice that teams league-wide erred in not choosing him sooner. He posted 101 receptions for 1,377 yards and eight touchdown catches as a rookie. The yards were the second most by a rookie in NFL history. For those efforts, Boldin -- one of just five players since 1990 to register 1,000 yards receiving as a rookie -- was rewarded with a Pro Bowl berth.

Boldin, 24, suffered a knee injury in training camp last summer and missed the first six games of the season. In 10 appearances, he had 56 catches for 623 yards and one score.
