Boxing writer Bert Sugar dies of cardiac arrest

Associated Press – 57 mins ago

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. (AP) — Bert Sugar, an iconic boxing writer and sports historian who was known for his trademark fedora and ever-present cigar, died Sunday of cardiac arrest. He was 75.

Jennifer Frawley, Sugar's daughter, said his wife, Suzanne, was by his side when he died at Northern Westchester Hospital. Sugar also had been battling lung cancer.

"Just his intelligence and his wit and his sense of humor," Frawley said when asked what she will remember about her father. "He was always worried about people. He was always helping people."

Sugar was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005. According to the hall's website, Sugar wrote more than 80 books, including "The 100 Greatest Boxers Of All Time." He also appeared in a handful of films, including "The Great White Hype" starring Samuel Jackson.

An icon in the world of boxing to say the least...

RIP...

Wow I loved this guy. I am one of the last boxing fans lol.

Bert Sugar died today. For those of you who don't know he was a legendary boxing writer and commentator who wore a fedora and always had a cigar in his hand.

For those of you who also still don't understand the hate the Cowboys instill in the American sports fabric, he also wrote a book--

I Hate The Dallas Cowboys and Who Elected Them American's Team Anyway

Here's a review of the book on Amazon...

"There is likely no team in Americans sports more loathed than the Dallas Cowboys. The antics of their players and coaches, their crass showmanship, their contemptible pride, make them a worthy target of our scorn. For the first time ever, a collection of essays will give voice to what America thinks of the Dallas Cowboys. I Hate the Dallas Cowboys will be a crisp invective that is sure to make headlines and sure to make us laugh."

I'm sure the book is required reading for producers at ESPN, NFL Network NBC Sunday Night Football and of course the DMN.

Embrace.

He was a good boxing commentator but he sucked otherwise. Just came off as condescending and superior, like he was doing you a huge favor sharing his vast knowledge of sports.

May he rest in peace. There is no sarcasm intended here.

RIP Mr. Sugar. Now that you are with the Lord you must realize the error in judgment, and that, in Heaven, the Cowboys are on the Big Screen 24/7.

Very nice.

If God has a sense of humor, he'll have Tom Landry meet him at the pearly gates.

It was a great book too. Some of the dumbest reasons to hate the Cowboys I have ever heard.
