In Hawaii right now (just arrived yesterday) and my wiife is spooked about the hurricane heading toward the islands. She's already rescheduled our flights to head out of town tomorrow (Friday) morning at 7 am. I'm trying to convince her that if she wants to cut the trip short we should leave in 2-3 days after the hurricane has done it's worst. I'm not a fan of flying into the teeth tomorrow.

What say you?

$2.5-3K down the drain btw

Depends on what you are being advised to do because they have a limited number of shelters on each island, if that is necessary but a good hotel should be OK for hunkering down and riding it out. If you are up out of the possible flooding, you should be OK.

Stay there and hunker down. No need to fly in that direction with the wind shears. You will be safe in one of the hotels.

Never been in one of Hawaii's hurricanes when I was stationed there, but I have been in a couple of Okinawa's typhoons. Your best bet is to wait it out in the hotel. You wont be in any real danger

My thoughts exactly. We're staying at an Air BNB but feel fairly secure. Been watching the news reports all day and by all accounts the hurricane should weaken dramatically in the next 24-48 hours. She's panicked and spooked. My thinking is you're safer on land dealing with flooding and wind than you are in a plane dealing with unpredictable wind sheer at take off and ascent. We've been arguing about it, lol.

Looks like it going to be bad. But yeah you couldn't get me on a plane in that, I'm surprised they aren't cancelled

It’s not going your way. Just a brushing glance. Women are always wanting to be dramatic. Tell her to chill or go back by herself. If that happens let me know. I’ve got a good buddy that lives on the north shore who can hook you up.

The surf after this passes is going to be 50 year level!
A couple of decades ago, just might’ve been trying to get there.
No way anymore
