I think the reason the Cowboys staff likes him is that he could probably step in pretty quickly this year in case there is an injury to Austin, Crayton, or Hurd - in that he's already polished as far as rookies go.
That said, like you mentioned, his upside may not be as great as a result. I think of Robiskie as a potentially very good number 3 and possibly a good number 2 in time.
I'd rather go a different direction at WR this year. I'd prefer a guy like M Thomas who would have a defined role (slot), can be a big asset on STs, has tremendous speed, and we don't have to pretend he's going to be our number 1 in the next few years. He is what he is, which is potentially a very, very good slot WR with great speed.
that's probably the thinking, that Robiskie is closer to being a #2 than any, other WR on our roster
and let's not forget that Roy is going to be our featured receiver, we just need his complement
