BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert says the team has had talks with the St. Louis Rams about moving up in the NFL draft to take quarterback Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick.

Heckert on Thursday said the Browns, who have the No. 7 pick, have been “‘playing a little phone tag” but said they have talked with the Rams, who are expected to select the Oklahoma quarterback.

Browns president Mike Holmgren warned that dealing for Bradford could be difficult, saying “you’d have to mortgage the ranch. In the real world, we’re probably going to go in a different direction.”

Currently owning 10 picks, Cleveland could put together an attractive package of picks to move up.

Bradford did not visit the Browns, but the team attended his pro day workout.

So I think this would be a good move for the Rams and a horrible move for the Browns... Im not sold on Bradford at all and I think they could go the route of the Chargers a few years back when they took L.T. and Brees.

I think the Browns are headed for the top pick in next year's draft. They will absolutely suck this year.

washed up Jake Delhomme and some Seattle reject as their QBs right now. They traded their 4th and 5th rd picks this year for two players the Eagles didn't want and likely wouldn't have cut.

Mangini and Holmren are making Al Davis look like a genius.

I'd definitely try to swing a trade for Clev's 1st rd pick next year.

Next year is a great year to find a QB. The Browns should not panic. Going up from #7 to #1 overall would be VERY expensive...maybe next year's first.

Exactly, next years QBs are looking like Locker who if he does not turn out to be a top 5 QB over his career I would be suprised, Mallett who if he is a hit he will be an absolute stud, and if Andrew Luck declares he will be competing with Locker on who is the first QB from the 2011 class to be inducted into canton.

Honestly the 2011 class if Luck, Mallett and Locker declare will resemble the 83 class with Elway, O'Brien and Kelly. You cant go wrong with any. (or more recent the 2004 class with Roethlisberger, Rivers and E.Manning, but in that case getting Eli Manning with the 1st overall pick is not such a great idea.)

I agree...those 3 for sure, plus there are several more that rate a possible 2nd or 3rd round grade before this coming season. '11 should be a great QB year.

I'd take Locker over Stafford, Bradford, Clausen, Sanchez, Freeman and Matt Ryan knowing what we know about them now.

Only QB from past 3 draft classes I would take over Locker is Joe Flacco.
