I'm hearing this from a couple of different places. That could be very interesting.

So whats the scuttle about you guys hiring Floridas old DC, Teryl Austin? Is it just because of his last name?

Get it?........

Austin?...........Austin..... :D

Anyways...what's up w/ that news ABQ? Yes to this guy but NO to Shannon?

Teryl Austin served one year as Florida defensive coordinator, and 7 seasons in the NFL as a defensive backs coach for the Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals.

Could be Dallas. I hear that he's very high on Texas' list for DC. I don't know how true this is but if so, he would certainly be a nice pickup by Texas. If Kirby Smart is brought in by Muschamp as the new DC at Florida, then this guy would be looking for a job and would probably be in the running at Texas. This assumes he doesn't go to Alabama. According to reports, the job at Florida is Smart's to turn down. You'd have to think that the writing is on the wall for Austin.

Orangeblood is reporting that he IS the new DC at Texas.

Did this guy call plays or was it the head coach?

That's what I want to know as well. Would be a nice pickup, though.

Don't know much about Austin as DC. Recruitocosm said that Austin has not been named DC yet. So many OB jumped the gun a bit.

Harsin calls his own plays. He's a motion, play action guy that is heavily reliant on spacing for his offensive success. You will see a much more disciplined WR corp in his offense. He teaches and demands very precise routes. He creates mismatches by using his WRs to space the field. He believes in a downhill running game.

He's pretty talented guy.

Boise has one of the best Offenses to watch and are easily the best coached team in the Nation.

That all sounds fine and dandy. But I'm a little leary of the guy because of the success he's had already. He could be a one year and done as our OC. If his success follows him here at Texas. I want and need that stability that I've been accustom to. If Major can learn from this coach in that year it may be well worth it. It isn't for sure that Major will even be here next year. Reports came out of Austin that Major could go with Muschamp.

This is also a list that has been started on Burnt Orange Nation for possible OCs:
Paul Chryst
Frank Cignetti
Paul Petrino
Jim McElwain
Garrick McGhee
David Shaw

This offseason kinda makes it very clear that the days of successful coaching staffs staying together for long periods of time are gone. We complained a lot about Macks staff but it's likely that we will probably not see a staff stay together for 10 or 13 years anymore. If a coordinator wins or has great success over multiple years, he's going to get a shot. Same with assistants.

Your right. But with a hot name like Harsin I'd hate to have a one and done season with him. The only loyality you have is with the alumni of a particular school. Like Major Applewhite. I think he would sweep the gym floor if he thought it would help him get the job (OC and Head Coach)! He's a very smart guy and his heart and soul is here at UT. Who better for the job?

I would not mind seeing Bryan Harsin get the job. Seems many think of Boise as a trick offense but they are very much a balanced offense and he has been very successful in putting a very good offense out on the field.

I think if you sign a guy like Hasin to, say a 3 year deal with an option for two more, that kinda puts you in the position you would like to be in. I agree with you. I would love nothing more then to see the Major be the HC here one day. If you could get Major in a position to learn under a guy like Harsin for three years, I think at the end of that time, you might be able to just allow Harsin to go elsewhere. I mean, you don't have to allow another school to talk to an assistant. If at the end of that three years, Major is ready, you let Harsin move on to bigger and better and you continue to bring The Major along. Now, if Applewhite decides he doesn't want to wait, then there's not much you can do about that.

I agree with all that you said! I think that if Harsin comes to a place like UT and continues to produce as he has with Boise State players, he'll get a HC job ASAP! Imagine what this guy could do with OUR high school all american players! I think Major would be in it for the long haul if he was given a carrot every once in awhile.
