With all their opponents set in stone, an early look at how the Cowboys 2020 schedule could shape up.
The Dallas Cowboys season ended two weeks ago, but boy does it feel much longer than that. Since that game, the Cowboys have moved on from Jason Garrett, hired Mike McCarthy as their new head coach, and are bringing in almost an entirely new coaching staff.
Change is going to be the theme of this offseason in Big D, but one thing that will be a known quantity is the Cowboys 2020 opponents. Coming off a year where they actually had a relatively easy schedule, the same will not be true for Dallas in 2020. The Cowboys have to face five teams that qualified for the postseason this season, and four of those games come on the road.
The NFL schedule does not get released until April every year, but here is an early prediction at what the Dallas Cowboys 2020 schedule could look like.
Home Opponents: Commanders,Giants, Eagles, Cardinals, 49ers, Browns, Steelers and Falcons.
Away Opponents: Commanders, Giants, Eagles, Seahawks, Rams, Vikings, Bengals and Ravens.
Week One: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants, 4:25 ET
Well well well, the Cowboys and Giants meet in Week One for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. In recent years, this early-season matchup has not had much buzz surrounding it, but that may change next season. Both the Giants and Cowboys have new head coaches, and there is still a chance Jason Garrett could be the Giants offensive coordinator next season. If this comes to fruition, a Cowboys Giants Week One matchup seems inevitable.
Week Two: Arizona Cardinals vs Dallas Cowboys, 1:05 ET
After opening up with a divisional opponent on the road, Dallas rebounds with a fairly easy home opener against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals preformed better than their 5-10-1 record this season, but rookie quarterback Kyler Murray struggled down the stretch. Still, this figures to be one of the easiest games on the Cowboys schedule, and more often than not they get those towards the beginning of the year.
Week Three: Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks, 4:25 ET
The Cowboys have been no stranger to some early-season trips to Seattle, and that continues here in Week Three. The Texas Rangers play their final week of the regular season at home that weekend, so Dallas almost certainly will not have a home game, creating a perfect time for them to go face the Seahawks.
Week Four: Atlanta Falcons vs Dallas Cowboys, 1:05 ET
The Cowboys return home after Seattle and take on another NFC opponent in the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are coming off a season where they started 1-7, but finished 7-9. They kept their head coach Dan Quinn, and when Matt Ryan and the Falcons match up with the Cowboys it usually creates for exciting games.
Week Five: Washington Commanders vs Dallas Cowboys, 8:15 ET
It takes till Week Five, but the Cowboys get their first true “primetime” game of the 2020 season against the Washington Commanders. It has been a while since these two had a Monday Night Football matchup, and with Ron Rivera taking over in Washington it makes sense to bring it back in 2020.
Week Six: Dallas Cowboys at Cincinnati Bengals, 4:25 ET
The Cowboys face their first AFC opponent in Week Six, taking on the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals will likely have Joe Burrow at quarterback, which could create for an exciting, late-afternoon matchup between the two. The last time Dallas traveled to Cincinnati, it was an instant classic.
Week Seven: BYE WEEK
Dallas gets their bye at a decent time in Week Seven.
Week Eight: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 ET
Dallas comes of their bye with one of the biggest games of the season, traveling to Philly to take on the Eagles. Both teams handled each other at home last season, splitting the season series. Dallas will have their first Sunday Night Football game of the season.
Week Nine: San Francisco 49ers vs Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 ET
Things get no easier for the Cowboys as they follow up their game with the Eagles against what could be the reigning NFC Champion, the San Francisco 49ers.
Week Ten: Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings, 1:05 ET
Dallas faces their third playoff team in a row, traveling to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. Dallas and Minnesota matched up in Dallas for Sunday Night Football this season, so this likely means the two teams will not have a primetime game again in 2020.
Week Eleven: Cleveland Browns vs Dallas Cowboys, 8:15 ET
In my opinion, this would be a great Thanksgiving matchup, but since Dallas faced Buffalo this season, they likely will face a NFC team in 2020 on Turkey Day. Due to this, Dallas matches up with Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns the Sunday before on Sunday Night Football.
Week Twelve: New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys, 4:30 ET
The Cowboys and Giants face off on Thanksgiving for the first time since 1992. Once again, if Garrett is in NY, networks will want to milk all the ratings they can out of the team’s games. Thanksgiving would be a perfect chance for that.
Week Thirteen: Dallas Cowboys at Baltimore Ravens, 8:15 ET
The Cowboys continue their recent tradition of Thursday to Thursday after Thanksgiving, this time facing the Baltimore Ravens. Big-time matchups the Thursday after Thanksgiving have been a theme, and this may be the biggest one yet.
Week Fourteen: Dallas Cowboys at Washington Commanders, 8:15 ET
The Cowboys face the Commanders in a late-season matchup for the first time since 2015. Washington likely won’t be in the playoff chase, but having Rivera as their head man will make them competitive till the end.
Week Fifteen: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 ET
One of the biggest games on the Cowboys schedule as the old-school rivalry continues. Both Pittsburgh and Dallas will likely be in the playoff hunt in Week Fifteen, so this matchup figures to carry much weight.
Week Sixteen: Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams, 4:25 ET
This year the Cowboys hosted the Rams in Week Fifteen, in 2020 I believe they travel to LA in Week Sixteen. The Rams will rebound in 2020, and the schedule makers love to give Dallas tough road games down the stretch.
Week Seventeen: Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys, 1:00 ET
Dallas wraps up their regular-season with a division matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Who knows, there is a good chance this division game could end up deciding the wins the NFC East again in 2020.
