News: BTB: Cowboys almost signed Patrick Robinson once in free agency, could they try again?

Maybe this time it’ll actually happen and Patrick Robinson will sign with Dallas.

Two years ago the Dallas Cowboys all but officially signed cornerback Patrick Robinson, and then a whole bunch of wild stuff went down.

Robinson ended up in Indianapolis with the Colts, and a year later in Philadelphia with the Eagles where he just won the Super Bowl and had an impressive season. He’s set to be a free agent once again.

Patrick will be 31 when next season begins, but he’s playing at a very high level. 2017 could have been a wonder of a season, or he could be experiencing a late-career renaissance of sorts. Either way, the Cowboys have shown interest before.

Dallas has a crop of young secondary players that look to have a promising future. Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods, Anthony Brown, you get the idea. What they might not have is a savvy veteran like Orlando Scandrick if he moves on.

Robinson made plays all season long for the Eagles, including a pick-six in the NFC Championship Game against the Minnesota Vikings. If Dallas wants an elder statesman in the group, considering it almost happened before, Patrick Robinson makes a lot of sense.

Now, it is worth noting that given the incredible season he had, Robinson’s services might be more valued by a team that’s far more willing to give him a deal he likes. As he’s older, Patrick isn’t going to be able to get many more big deals.

But given that he has achieved what every player sets out to in winning a championship, Patrick might want to go somewhere he’s comfortable. He was previously ready to commit three seasons to Dallas, perhaps he wants to wear the star at some point.

The young secondary in Dallas does look to be promising, but ultimately they’ll need bodies at some point. Think back to the game in Denver when they dealt with massive injuries and were left quite thin. Patrick Robinson could be a final potential piece.

Maybe the second time is the charm, not the third. Who knows.

The injuries are the big concern. I don't like the idea on that reason. Though, I don't have a problem with a veteran CB if he can play at a high level.

Everyone coming off a Super bowl team is a no go for me, just because their price will be so inflated, he's a cb, age isn't that big of a deal to me at that position.
