The Cowboys picked up Trysten Hill with the 58th overall pick in the second round, how’s everyone feeling in cowboyszone?

The Cowboys sat through an interesting first night of the NFL Draft which saw the NFC East add six players to the division. Washington did its thing and got their quarterback Dwayne Haskins while also trading back up for a falling Montez Sweat. The Philadelphia Eagles traded up ahead of the Texans to make sure they got their left tackle of the future, Andre Dillard. The Giants owned the night, well they owned the headlines at least, by making three very interesting selections including selecting QB Daniel Jones at sixth overall.

Now, we have made it to day two, the Cowboys own the 58th pick and 90th pick in the second and third rounds respectively. With their first pick, 58th overall, the Cowboys went after explosive defensive tackle Trysten Hill of UCF.

Lots of Cowboys’ beat experts like Jane Slater, Bryan Broaddus, and David Helman had called this days ago but many believed that safety would be the target.

Why it makes sense: Trysten Hill may not be everyone’s top-rated defensive tackle but the Cowboys have been hunting 3-techniques. In the Cowboys scheme, the architect is Rod Marinelli, and there is nothing he covets more than elite first-step quickness. That’s Trysten Hill’s M.O., he’s quick off the snap and disruptive, here’s Dane Brugler’s reaction:

“The Cowboys were searching for that impact three-technique who can shoot gaps and disrupt the backfield – and that is what Hill can be. He plays with a crazy motor and the type of energy that equates to backfield production. He butted heads with the new coaching staff at UCF this past season and there are maturity concerns there, which is why I had him rated lower. But if he hits his potential, the Cowboys won’t regret this pick.”

Brugler’s scouting report:

Cowboys new DT Trysten Hill doesn’t turn 22 until March 25, 2020.

The issues for Trysten Hill seem to be related to him being difficult to coach but he’s about to be acquainted with one of the toughest defensive line coaches in NFL history:

NFC area scout to @LanceZierlein about new Cowboys DT Trysten Hill: "One thing that pops up is that he's really opinionated about a lot of things. Big talker. He wasn't always fun to coach so you have to keep that in mind if you bring him into your room."

Trysten Hill is a great kid and high energy animal from Suwannee,FL! I recruited and loved him.

Let’s look at cowboyszone’s reaction on social media:

"That's a good pick. Trysten Hill has Aaron Donald quickness." - BF

Think it's a round too hott, but hard to find a better fit in Rod Marinelli's scheme than Trysten Hill.

When it comes to defensive linemen, Jonah Tuls is one of the best to break them down:

There it is. Trysten Hill. My 57th overall player.

I will like it more than others.

Super quick and relentless 3T. Rod Marinelli’s guy.

I’ll carry the Trysten Hill flag if no one else will. Dude legit has Pro Bowl upside. Had him right there with Wilkins and Lawrence. https://t.co/zbYOA9yANZ

Not everyone is going to be a happy camper:

That is such a reach by Dallas. Especially with those players on the board.

Imagine passing on Nasir Adderely for Trysten Hill. Couldn't be me.

Like Bryan Broaddus says, the Draft is like “Baskin’ Robbins with 31 flavors.” Some will say it’s a reach but others will say different:

Good news for @dallascowboys fans. I spoke to multiple teams that had second-round DT Trysten Hill graded higher than Clemson DT Christian Wilkins. This kid is a really good football player. Check my timeline.

How does Trysten Hill feel about coming to the Dallas Cowboys:

New Cowboys DT Trysten Hill: “It means everything to get picked by the Cowboys.” Dallas DC Rod Marinelli worked him out at his pro day and the two immediately clicked. They kept in touch throughout the draft process. “I think I’m a dominant, tenacious player.”

Whether you love the pick or not, the Cowboys will be back on the clock in the third round soon enough...
