12. Dallas Cowboys (from Cincinnati). Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia. With Anthony Hitchens likely bolting in free agency, the Cowboys make a bold move up the board to get one of the top defensive players in the draft.

In this mock, the Cowboys go up in the first round to snag a playmaker.
The Cowboys call the Miami Dolphins to move up to pick 11 (1,250 points). In order to make that move, the Cowboys offer picks 19+50 (1,275 points). Now this leaves the Cowboys with no second-rounder but the Cowboys would have just taken an injured player there anyway. All jokes aside, the Cowboys get a really good player and soon-to-be catalyst for their defense.

“Most draft observers are slotting Nwosu as a mid-round pick who might go as early as the third round. He had a solid showing at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, running an unofficial 4.65 40-yard dash. Teams might view Nwosu as a late bloomer packed with potential because he didn’t take up football until his sophomore year of high school.”

Brugler decides that the Cowboys don't have to trade up to secure a first-round talent as he rolls with the offensive side of the ball.
Pick 19: Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
Talking with scouts at the combine, I would put the odds at 50-50 that Ridley will be available for the Cowboys at pick No. 19. The top three on the Dallas wide receiver depth chart (Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley) hasn’t changed the last five years and the position is overdue for an upgrade. Ridley can be a starter from Day 1, and his presence will provide immediate relief for Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys were more observers than participants in Elliott’s legal battles, though they did file a declaration of support in Elliott’s bid for a temporary restraining order in September. Jones has staunchly defended Elliott throughout.

Free Agency Series: Future For These 3 Players To Be Determined By FA Market | Dallas Cowboys
In this exercise, the Mothership looks at a group of guys you would like to have back but it truly depends on the open market.
Brice Butler (Unrestricted) – This one depends on more than just the market. The Cowboys obviously have a decision to make regarding Dez Bryant and his contract. If there’s a scenario that doesn’t include Bryant on this team in 2018, it makes more sense for both Butler and the Cowboys for a return. However, there might not be any room for him on this current setup, which includes Dez, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley and others, especially knowing the Cowboys will probably draft a receiver high in the draft. There has to be better options for Butler, unless of course, the Cowboys need to fill some major voids.

It seems like all the NFL teams are making moves to get better while the Cowboys sit quietly and do nothing. But is that really what’s going on? Don’t forget about these big moves happening for Dallas this offseason.
This offseason it’s a good bet that the Cowboys will sign two All-Pro players to long-term deals - Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence. (It could end up being next year for Lawrence, but he’s a Cowboy for 2018). These are players the team drafted in 2014 who have played through their rookie contracts and have panned out for the Cowboys.
At some point in the near future the front office will pay them a lot of money to keep them in a Cowboys uniform for many years to come. If any other team in the league made moves to secure the services of two All Pro players like Martin and Lawrence, their fan base would be pleased.
Sure, there are players they would love to have from other teams, but they aren’t going to sell the farm to acquire them. In fact, they’re rather deliberate where their money goes for one very important reason that bears repeating - they like their own players.

The Cowboys have to make this free agency count for something because teams around them aren't afraid to make moves.
Moving third-day draft pieces across the table to claim veteran starters is a move every team should make whenever possible. This is especially true if you happen to be the Cowboys and the league has bestowed four compensatory picks upon you for last year’s free-agent defections.
Those picks, now tradeable, give the Cowboys a 1, a 2, a 3, two 4’s, two 5’s, two 6’s and a 7. And while NFL owners love the cheap labor that draft picks represent, it doesn’t really make sense to head into the 2018 season with 10 rookies from the draft board. The Cowboys’ history at scoring with those third-day picks can certainly be called into question.
Now there is plenty of time to start shuffling some of these picks around in order to move up in the first, the second round or wherever. The draft at AT&T Stadium does not commence until April 26.
