Terrell Owens finally gets into the NFL Hall of Fame - Dave Halprin, Blogging The Boys
After two years of being snubbed from the Hall of Fame, the former Cowboys receiver was finally voted in to the 2018 induction class. Owens hasn't been a crowd favorite due to his controversial antics, but as our own Dave Halprin indicates, the numbers speak for themselves:
Based on Owens numbers, he’s a shoe-in HOF’er:
He ranks second all-time in receiving yards. Andre Reed, Art Monk, Steve Largent, James Lofton, and Michael Irvin all have fewer receiving yards than Owens and they are all Hall of Famers.
He ranks third all-time in receiving touchdowns, behind only Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.
He ranks eighth all-time in receptions.
Additionally, he helped elevate the teams he was a part of for most his career.

Terrell Owens finally gets selected for Pro Football Hall of Fame - Lindsay H. Jones, USA Today
Owens had become a little sour after being left off the list these past two years and he didn't sound very optimistic that things were going to change.
After being shut out the past two years, Owens appeared to be preparing himself this week for another disappointing phone call. Earlier this week, while appearing in a video with USA TODAY Sports on radio row at the Mall of America Bloomington, Minn., Owens jokingly referred to the Hall as the “Hall of Shame.”
"I'm still smiling, aren't I?" Owens said when asked about not making the cut on his first two years as a finalist.
The wide receiver also irked some when he said he wouldn't want to be affiliated with the 49ers when going into the Hall of Fame, even though players don't have to choose such a designation.
"I have my reasoning behind that," Owens said this week. "There are certain situations that the fans aren't privy to. If I'm upset for a certain reason, let me be upset."

It wasn’t all good news for former Cowboys players as fan favorite Everson Walls didn’t make the cut.
Longtime Dallas Cowboys cornerback Everson Walls fell short of the Hall of Fame after making it to the finals in his final year of eligibility.
Walls had 57 career interceptions and was named first-team All-Pro three times, as well as four Pro Bowl nods.
He remains in good spirits about things.

Everson Walls long wait to HOF finalist - Clarence Hill Jr. - Fort Worth Star-Telegram
The former Cowboys cornerback who had 11 interceptions his rookie year has been waiting 19 years to have a shot at the Hall of Fame, and this was the first time he was a finalist. Waiting is something he's no stranger to, as Clarence Hill reports:
“I tell people all the time. It’s pretty standard for my life. It’s always been weird. It’s never been by the book. Nothing has ever been ideal for me. I relish that. Because I have always thrived in that situation. To me, Hall of Fame or not, I am still going to thrive. I’m still a long shot. But I got them right where I want them. This is a familiar situation for me.”

Cowboys fans appreciate the remarkable play they got from Tony Romo, but Rick Gosselin offers up his explanation as to why Romo will never make it to Canton.
Neither Aikman nor Staubach ranks among the NFL’s Top 30 passers all time in yardage or efficiency. But their combined five Super Bowl rings paved their paths to Canton. Quarterbacks are judged by their jewelry. Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Bob Griese and John Elway were all multi-Super Bowl winners. All are in the Hall of Fame. Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Len Dawson, Steve Young and Brett Favre all won Super Bowls. All are in the Hall of Fame.
Tony Romo has never won a Super Bowl. He’s never been to a Super Bowl. He’s never even been to a conference title game. You need more than stats to get into the Hall of Fame.
He would also throw out some other QB's who have had success but don't have a bust in Canton.
But Ken Anderson went to four Pro Bowls. He also won four NFL passing titles. He was an NFL MVP and took his Cincinnati Bengals to a Super Bowl. But he can’t get into Canton. He’s now in the senior pool and his wait is at 26 years and counting.

5 Early Candidates For Cowboys In 1st Round Of NFL Draft - John Owning, FanRag Sports
John Owning from FanRag Sports provides five possible players the Cowboys could chose with that coveted first round pick, including a super athletic safety.
Derwin James, DB, Florida State
Take one look at Derwin James and you may be sold on his first-round prospects. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, James is a physical specimen with absurd athletic ability.
James has the athletic ability to play in a deep safety role, but his presence is felt much more when he lines up near the box. If Dallas opts to move Byron Jones to cornerback full time, James has the ability to take over his hybrid role in Dallas’s defense. Like Jones, James demonstrates the ability to cover tight ends one-on-one, but James is much more sound than Jones in run defense. James displays a physicality that could be a welcome sight for Dallas in that hybrid role.
The reason why James may be available in the middle of the first round is that he has a slow processor. When put in a deep safety role, James takes too long to read route combinations and anticipate throwing lanes. His athletic ability covers up a lot of those flaws in college, but it won’t in the NFL.
James is a hard-working safety who appears to have the mental makeup necessary to become an impact player week-in and week-out, but he’s not quite there yet, making him an enticing option dripping with upside for Dallas in the first round.
John Owning isn’t the only one who has James on his draft radar, however he might not make it all the way to 19.
2018 NFL Draft: Three prospects the Cowboys could trade up for - Ryan Ratty, Blogging The Boys
In a perfect world, one of those highly coveted blue-chippers would fall to the Cowboys at pick 19. But sometimes things don't fall into place and if Dallas wants to get in on the good, they may have to make a move. Our own Ryan Ratty is back in action with three players worth trading up for, including a DB from Florida State.
Derwin James, S, Florida State
With the addition of Kris Richard to the Cowboys’ coaching staff, there should be a huge level of excitement for this defense going forward. Despite there being a number of injuries to key players and clubhouse issues, Richard was scapegoated as the reason the Seahawks struggled defensively.
Dallas has a number of defensive backs that could explode under the tutelage of Richard. However, the Cowboys could look to add another toy for him in the draft.
At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, James is one of the bigger safeties in this year’s draft class. Despite being taller and bigger, James is a sure tackler who plays with a range from the center-fielder position of the defense. He’s exactly what the NFL is looking for now in safeties.
By adding James, the Cowboys will all of the sudden have an extremely talented secondary filled with younger players with a ton of upside. When you look at the takeaway numbers over the past decade, the Cowboys have never really been at the top. With this group, expect a lot of takeaways and short fields for the offense.

Whether you're looking to replace Dez Bryant or just give him a complementary receiver, the opinions are plentiful as to which WR the Cowboys should target in the draft. Randy Gurzi offers up five candidates, including the Colorado State prospect whose name keeps coming up for Dallas.
2. Michael Gallup, Colorado State
Not many top receivers come out of Colorado State, but that can’t be held against Michael Gallup, who could wind up being one of the better options for Dallas. Gallup doesn’t jump off the screen with height or speed, but he’s as polished a receiver as there is in the draft and he did a lot of damage in just two seasons with the Rams.

What the scouts say
The clean routes and impressive vision are two assets that scouts like when discussing Michael Gallup. They also like his tenacity, as he’s nearly unstoppable at contested passes and seems impossible to take down with one defender alone.
Does he fit in Dallas?
The Cowboys apparently think so, because reports are that the team was meeting with him during the Senior Bowl. He’s not a diva, which is needed after executive vice president Stephen Jones said Bryant’s attitude could be a distraction at times. He may be a surprise player considering how little buzz he was generating before the Senior Bowl, but in the end, he could become one of the better pros thanks to his fire and ability to win with the ball in the air.

Dane Brugler: Absolutely it should be a consideration, especially with the talented depth in this year's TE class. The second-fourth rounds will be the sweet spot for 8-10 tight ends to come off the board. Indiana's Ian Thomas is one of my favorites; he's just scratching the surface of his potential and the value is right.
Don't Forget About Cowboys DT Brian Price - Jess Hayne, Inside The Star
While most have already penciled in a big, bruising defensive tackle as someone the Cowboys will target in the upcoming draft, it should be noted that the team already has some intriguing options to round out their depth, including the 23-year-old prospect Brian Price.
While some have projected that defensive tackle could be a major draft priority for Dallas this year, it’s one of many positions they need to address. The Cowboys could decide that they have enough intriguing young prospects already, allowing Price, Ash, Neal, and others to compete for jobs without investing more resources.
We’ll see where Brian Price fits in next year, or if Dallas even chooses to re-sign him. He’s a name we shouldn’t forget, though, when considering 2018 options at defensive tackle.

Who is the next Cowboys coach once Garrett is gone?
Jon Machota: If Vegas put out odds today, Sean Payton would probably be the favorite. Reasons: He has worked as an assistant coach with the Cowboys. He has a good relationship with Jerry Jones. Drew Brees isn't going to play forever.
