The Cowboys pull off a shocker during the draft.
It’s a shocking move made by the Dallas Cowboys during the 2018 NFL draft. They have traded for Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin.
The Cowboys are remaking their wide receiver corps with the release of Dez Bryant. Austin never lived up to his potential with the Rams, but he is a fast, shifty receiver who can be used in a variety of ways. He has the speed to threaten deep and can be tough to tackle with the ball in his hands. The Cowboys may want to use him out of the backfield as a change of pace back on occasion. A possible gadget-back that Scott Linehan will need to find ways to incorporate him into the lineup.
Dallas gave up their sixth-round pick for Austin which seems like a small pittance for Austin.

We’ll have further details on the contract situation for Austin and what it will mean to the Cowboys cap. But Dallas is being very aggressive in remaking their offense and are adding different kinds of weapons. It appears the Cowboys are welcoming somewhat of a new era in Big D.
UPDATE:
A taker is finally found for Tavon Austin. Rams eat $4M because of Austin's 3rd day of league year roster bonus (3/16). Dallas is responsible for Austin's fully guaranteed $1M base salary, $2M in game day active roster bonuses ($125,000 per game) & $1M in not likely incentives.
