Will the Cowboys pull off a trade today for safety Earl Thomas?
The Earl Thomas to the Dallas Cowboys story is still alive. How alive it actually is we don’t really know, but nobody has killed it yet. Yesterday, Cole Patterson posted on the renewed rumors about Thomas and the Cowboys, mainly involving the 50th pick in the draft, which belongs to the Cowboys in the second round.
The trade discussions for S Earl Thomas between Seahawks and Cowboys are centered around Dallas’ second-round pick.
No deal will be done until the Cowboys determine if they can sign Thomas long term, reports @DanGrazianoESPN.

Graziano posted this:
There’s a sense around the league that the Dallas Cowboys aren’t done making a push for Thomas, who’d fill a major need on their defense. Two sources said the trade discussions between Seattle and Dallas have centered around the Cowboys’ second-round pick (No. 50 overall) but that no deal will be done until the Cowboys figure out whether they can sign Thomas long term. Thomas has one year and $8.5 million left on his contract,
Last night, after the Cowboys had selected Leighton Vander Esch, Jerry Jones was asked about the possibility of trading for Thomas. His answer wasn’t a straight-up denial, in fact, he inadvertently added a little fuel to the fire.
Jones was asked if the Cowboys have had any conversations about trading for Thomas.
”I’m not going to get into that,” Jones said. “That’s part of the deal. I mean not deal, but ... we have no deal.”
Jones laughed after he used “deal” in the answer. Later, he said he slipped up by using the word deal.
”It’d be a mess up to go off that, I’ll tell you,” Jones added.
Sources everywhere have pretty much confirmed that there have been discussions about trading for Thomas, and that it is centered on the Cowboys 50th pick. Of course, discussions are a long way from making a deal. The Seahawks would have to agree to accept that trade proposal, while the Cowboys would have to have some kind of framework for a new deal for Thomas.
Could is still happen? Sure. But it’s being termed a “long-shot” by some.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Seattle had some recent talks with the Cowboys. A trade has been called a “long shot,” per Rapoport, but if it happens, compensation would come tonight, along with a new big contract for Thomas.
If Dallas could work a new deal with Thomas (and that deal would be costly), would you trade the second-round pick for him?
