53 seems so light these days, especially when they continue to lengthen the season.

Seems as if everyone would benefit from expanded rosters but the owners are of course going to want something in return, so that’s likely out.

This is great news.
So a player like Rush, Sieg, Goodwin may be safe depending on the possible roster moves.
Not that any of them would leave. None are eligible to waiver claims. So a handshake deal to return. Unless some team offers a great a amount of money.
Which has not happened the past 3 years.

Great news would be that Goodwin does leave so we dont waste a roster spot on a player who can't play a position.
If it comes down to either Scott or Booth not making the roster while Goodwin does, its just comical.
Only specialists that should be carried is Punter, Kicker and holder. MAYBE an exception for returner. Thats it.

considering how little cost there is to adding a few more roster slots, it is just plain stupidity and greed that the owners will refuse to do it without some kind of trade off.
Just goes to show that the vast majority of owners are so fixated on the bottom line that they are unable to see past it at all

I agree.
I don't understand why all 53 players can't be allowed to play on Sunday, or at least 50.
The owners are paying them anyway, so why not allow them to suit up.

I think all those players are safe regardless. We could cut them all and no one is picking them up. Shoot we may have to pay another team to take Goodwin. Rush we could cut and only sign back if Dak gets hurt sometime during the season, no one is rushing to sign him to a contract.. Sieg we kinda need though so..

I think we'll treat Goodwin the same as we have the last couple of years. We'll cut him, put him on the PS and then bring him up for three games before adding him to the 53. That gives the roster a little time to settle before we have to make a decision on whether to add him. I think we'll cut a couple of vets like that to stash on the PS until needed. It'll be guys that no team really went after in the offseason.

Could be a good option for Nathan Thomas too. Edoga, since he’s a vested veteran, they sort of could already use him as a chess piece as it was. Thomas on the other hand, as a rookie we don’t want to lose control of, makes sense to try to move him direct to IR.

Nice to have these 2 spots, the Cowboys were already pretty good at playing the cut down day roster games, but this helps even more. Between this and having I think 2 or 3 vested veterans eligible for the “cut—>practice squad—>3 elevations—>roster” game, we should be in really good shape to manage our depth over the next ~week.

Isn't Trent Sieg our long snapper for punts and field goals? We definitely need him no matter what.
