Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen has already had discussions with the agent for QB Chris Simms regarding a contract extension. Allen said Thursday, Jan. 12, that the Buccaneers want to take both Simms and QB Brian Griese into the 2006 regular season. Simms is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason, which means Tampa Bay will consider tendering him a one-year contract that requires another team to offer the team compensation in the form of draft picks in order to acquire him.

Buccaneers | Griese may need to restructure; rehab going well

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese will probably need to restructure his contract to remain with the team in 2006. His cap value is scheduled to escalate from $1.398 million to $7.083 million in 2006. The team will have to make a decision on what to do with Griese before Mar. 3, which is when he's scheduled to receive a $2.6 million roster bonus. General manager Bruce Allen said Griese's rehab from knee surgery is going well. "It looks like he'll be ready for the offseason program," Allen said of Griese. "Brian is very aggressive in his rehab, and he's doing most of the work he needs to do right now. We almost have to slow him down. He should be ready for the start of OTA days."

Yep, even the Bucs are going with some much needed youth at QB. Simms looks like he could turn out to be a good one of these days.

It's high time the Cowboys find out if Romo or Henson can do the job. I like Bledsoe and what he brings to the table, but we're stalling in getting that franchise QB who can help lead the Cowboys to great things.
