I love mocks, but when you buckle-down and do them realistically, you finish feeling that you neglected a particular position.
If you get beef, you missed on playmakers. If you get playmakers, you’re a little disappointed about not selecting quality interior line personnel. I’ve put together enough of them and have read enough of them to know that if I’m happy with 4, maybe 5, of the 7 selections I should feel pretty good. This year at position 26 a trade-down to gain extra draft capital would be ideal, but those behind us are probably thinking the same thing, making finding a dance partner almost impossible.
It’s curious that I’m not over-the-top excited with our current TE room, but I believe that it’s a position the Cowboys could roll with in 2023 yet all the noise is pointing toward a first-round TE (Mayer) selection. If TE is to be the first-round selection du jour, I’d opt to be a little more adventurous and select the 6’7” blocking behemoth from GA. I can appreciate the conservative, low bust potential Mayer (don’t get me wrong…solid pick) selection, but in round 1 I’d like to see a bigger swing for the fences.
If you draft DW you have immediately improved your offensive line play and potentially opened the door to redzone possibilities. I know, his college pass catching numbers are lacking and this is where someone posts his numbers to support what I just stated. Thanks in advance. But just as Dean Smith was to blame for holding Michael Jordan to under 20 pts. per game Todd Monken played a somewhat similar role with his play design with the Bulldogs. Didn’t help DW’s case that opposite him was freakshow Bowers who is an all-world TE, Top 15 selection (maybe, right?) next season.
I don’t know. When I do these mocks, DW and Gibbs keep coming up in the first round and when I complete a mock having selected either one with my first pick, I kind of like it.
If you mock, I'll listen.
