Has anyone else caught this? I watched this on Biography last night. Funniest thing I did not know was that they did not have permission to blow up the golf course, but they did it anyway. That was awesome.

A few more:

The original version was over 4 hours and centered more around the caddys.

The Gopher was originally a sock puppet. He was recreated as a more lifelike creature and given more movie time to better tie in the film.

The scene with Bill Murray and Chevy Chase was ad libbed, as were quite a few more like the Piano scene between Chevy Chase and Cindy Morgan.

Some hard partying.

Much tension between Bill Murray and Chevy Chase from the altercation they had on the set of SNL

Arguing between Cindy Morgan and Chevy Chase

Hurricane grazed Florida and they had to rebuild some of the set.

They originally wanted Pink Floyd to do the music.

I saw it about a year ago. Interesting, funny stuff. Sounds like Dangerfield was completely nuts and didn't have a clue about movies and acting. I can't remember one of the producers names, but he came off like a slime ball demanding the actress who played Lacy Underall to take her top off or he'd blackball her from Hollywood. I think they had permission to blow up the course because they'd pay for the entire re-design in the end. Brian Doyle Murray hit his character really perfectly. Something that is not talked about much, but he had the caddy master down pat.

They didn't have permission and the exploding hole was built on a parking lot not the actual course. The fire ball was bigger than they expected and pilots flying into a nearby airport reported the explosion. lol

Correct. They held a huge offsite party for the golf course employees far away at the same time as they were blowing up the fake green they had built up lol.

Also, every line by Bill Murray was ad-libbed. Most of Rodney's were. Chevy and Bill Murray didn't like each other (to this day really), but the producers and director did not know that. The director had never made a film. Ted Knight was a serious actor and was furious at the ad-libbing being allowed by Bill and Rodney, and his anger in some of the scenes is quite real. At the end of filming, all they had were scenes but no movie. They came up with the gopher to tie everything together.

Some more trivia if you are interested.

Awesome! I'm going to pick up the Blu Ray of Caddy Shack this weekend. I heard it mentioned that they have a lot of footage of the cast behind the scenes in that package.

Still one of my favorites. I was in the golf business for 15 years doing maintenance, bag room, driving range, caddie, assistant pro, and finally a head pro for the final 8 years. The course I worked for was a small old school country club much like Bushwood. It was a constant party, and total abuse of the club. Skinny dipping in the pool at night, smoking pot in the cart barn, keg parties on the middle of the corse late at night, and spotlighting deer and turkey was regular place. We were closed on Monday's, and only employees could play then. I'd go out with my sticks, a 12 pack, and my rod-n-reel to fish all the water hazards between holes. It was some of the best times of my life, an SO Caddyshack! Too bad they didn't pay squat...I'd still be there.

I caught that earlier, and agree it was fun to watch.
Another one that's fun to watch was the show on the making of "Animal House".
IMO,two classic movies!
