I just dont see it with him. He basically sucked at every position he was in his coaching career. He led one of the worst Offenses in football last season. Seems like a typical Jerry "Yes-Man" type of hire. I get serious Jason Garrett 2.0. vibes with him.

If the Cowboys would have been serious about changing culture and winning they would have not made the lazy pick again. Ben Johnson would have been my favourite this offseason.

We can only speculate. However, he didn't suck at every job. He had top rush offenses in the league. I think he is not the plastic phony that garrett was to players and also he doesn't seem like a know it all that is going to suck the creativity out of his OC as Garrett did multiple times. But again, this is just speculating based on what he's done and said since getting the job. I like that he said Pete Carrol was his the most impactful coach he learned from. Give me a younger pete carrol any day. But you're justified to be skeptical based on 30 years of mediocre at best football.

I THINK I'M JUST TIRED OF HEARING about CULTURE!!! Just play football, what are we going to have a bunch of nice guys that love football but have no heart?? All this getting to know the players and stuff like that is fine and nice, but let's bring some toughness, let's actually be ready for the playoffs!!!

I’m willing to give the guy a few seasons before passing judgement. Jerry is not doing him many favors though when it comes to talent.

Nobody did less with the talent he was given than Garrett

I’m not giving him any slack and to no fault of his but Jerry. There was far more qualified coaches out there with proven success and we go in house. Unbelievable.

I’d expect a jason Garrett level coach as his ceiling, would love to be wrong though

Where he will be tested is handling play calling duties and being the HC at the same time. All new to him. If he was just a walk around HC everyone would be less critical. If the offense can’t function however the fans will turn quickly

I’m curious as to what similarities you see between Schottenheimer and Garrett?

I'm afraid this is one of those typical cases where he aint his daddy.

Now you list me when you said he had worst offense in NFL last year.... McCarthy controlled every aspect of the offense, from design to which plays to run.

As far as Jason Garrett 2.0 ? I think someine said he sounds like Jason when he talks about wanting the "right kind of guy" (which isnt "exactly" what Shotty said) and now you want to use that to make a real comparison? I think you should give us a real idea as to why you think Shotty is another Jason cuz I and most others don't see it.
Shótty cares about a players character. If you are sick of the culture club this team has had for past thirty years, especially much in Jason Garretts reign as head coach, then you should appreciate Shottys attempt to change that by getting guys in here who have great character and love the game of football.

Now I will give you that in that shotty was not my choice and me too wanted Ben to be the guy, but so far shotty has done absolutely nothing short of everything he should be doing and what sounds like a great plan for bringing this team back.

I am not crowning him with anything yet until I see what this team does on the field, but I do like what I am seeing/hearing and I do believe based on that, he is not nearly as much a puppet as I thought he would be.

I hope so.

We had some good teams under Garrett. We had good offenses under Garrett. They had the RKG's, less thugs more players. What they didn't have was a good defense. But then again Garrett didn't pick his staff either. He had lineman thrust on him, kiffen thrust on him.

While the new HC is very similar and I'm critical they did not do an in-depth head coach search. What they did do is very thorough, in depth, search for assistants. If Brian can be a decent walk around coach with good coordinators that's what we need. So I am optimistic, shockingly, that we finally have a group of coaches that help these players be better.

The league has already voted that BS is better than Garrett. Once Garrett failed in New York and ran out of owners who were personal friends, it was straight to TV and making SNF pregame unwatchable with that fake overprojected voice and overrehearsed grin on command.

I don't see it either.
He is handicapped already having two meddling owners. A defense that sucks. An offense that maybe improved in paper and despite the RG pick has huge HUGE question marks at tackle spots. No WR2 and we saw how the TEs regressed and dealing with improved teams in the east.

And you can see all this from your sofa, or are you sharing insight from the locker room, film sessions, position meetings and team practices? If you ate, we'd really like to hear more.
