line campbell next to petitti, rogers, tucker, or whoever. problem solved

Problem solved? Not quite. Unless you want to line Campbell IN that RT spot, nothing is solved... that RT still has to block somebody.

So we have to use 2 people to fill 1 position...doesn't that leave a big hole where the second guy should be doing his part?

Because then we have to take out a wr or fb plus like someone else mentioned it's two players doing one players job.

couldn't have said it better myself

You can only have 11 players on the field at one time. You can't leave two TE's in if you want to get Crayton on the field in a 3 WR package.

So are you going to have Witten standing on the sidelines in 3rd down situations so Campbell can stay in and block?

Umm,

Petitti didn't do a bad job at all and seemed to get better the more he was on the field.

Keep in mind it was his first action at right tackle, he has an ankle injury, and he was going against a very good player.

He played light years better than Vollers, tucker, and any other backup lineman.

One thing that could work every now and then is the Tackle-Over formation. I wouldn't be permanent, but it would be heavy power on one side.

For those who don't know, Tackle-Over is where the tight end and opposite tackle swap places. For Example:

LT LG C RG RT TE ==> TE LG C RG RT LT

This only works when you have an excellent blocking tight end that can protect the weak side, which I think we have sufficient talent to fill that spot.

Just a thought.

Technically you could have 3 WRs and 2 TEs - but that would be an "empty backfield".
