The kicking situation is one that is starting to worry me a bit. I was actually expecting the Cowboys to draft one. SF letting Gould explore the market is one thing, but to not bring him back and use a 3rd round pick on a new K makes me wonder. Either they think their new kicker is going to be Justin Tucker or there were some issues with Gould last season. At age 40 that shouldn't be ruled out either, even if he was still nearly automatic in 2022. If he is getting to a point where he is having leg soreness or his knee is swelling up throughout the week he is an easy candidate to fall off a cliff soon. This is 100% speculation on my end, but I have a hard time believing it's business as usual with him at this point.

I have a feeling that Maher is going to be back with a UDFA to compete with. With a full offseason for Maher to reset that may actually be just fine, but until we see him thrive it's hard to be confident in him.

I can't fault anyone who has that opinion at this point. All I know is once the options start to become thin teams often prefer the devil they know over the one they dont. If there are no red flags around Gould I would have him on a plane to Dallas tomorrow. He's really the only kicker out there at this point that I feel better about than Maher.

Not at this point… he doesn’t have any other options. Back to just being happy he’s on a team at league minimum. Them $$$ floating around his head went “pooffff and vanished like a fart in the wind”!!!

There is no way that MM with his job on the line would depend on Maher. You could make an argument that Maher’s kicking woes changed the way our offense played against San Francisco and cost us the game.
