Me got a question...…….
Replaced the front sway bar extensions on the 1st generation CRV last week and, ooops!

Accidently hit the rubber dampener that's on the driver side CV axle and yep knocked it loose. Right now it is hanging on the axle and depending on where it happens to be on the axle can make a bit of noise.

I could replace the front CV axles but I see no need, no clicking and the boots appear to be in good shape. I know the dampener is there for noise/vibration but honestly its the 1st time ive seen one on a CV Axle. Matter of factly if you go buy a new one at Autozone/etc they do not have the dampeners on them. I got half a mind to get the saw out and cut it off. Seen people who have done the same and they cant tell any difference with/without.
Your thoughts?

Really? Wow, that's surprising. I don't know that YouTube has ever failed me.....Then again, I'm not a mechanic, so if it looks like something over my head, I don't even get that far.

Yep nothing on YT, on some Honda forums people are about 50/50 if the dampeners are actually needed or not. I may be SOL.

I’m not a mechanic, but if I can’t find the help I need on YouTube I ask Louis Altazan. He owns a shop in Baton Rouge, LA called AGCO (Altazan’s Garage Company). He has a weekly podcast that is great (best I’ve found automotive related). This guy knows his ****. I’ve learned a ton from him. You can email him via his website and he ALWAYS replies, usually within 24 hours. Link is below, just go to Contact Us to email him and ask anything automotive related.

http://www.agcoauto.com/

My guess is he’ll tell you the dampener is there for a reason and advise buying OEM replacement parts and steering clear of aftermarket junk like Autozone sells. Not all aftermarket parts are crap but the vast majority is.

I can't help but am adding car guys to my ever growing list. Got nerds from the computer one. Can't wait for the HVAC thread and will stay here all day for the farm machinery one.

If it's a noise issue only, saw it off and invest in better speakers.
