Cardinals | Johnson contract update
Tue, 6 Mar 2007 14:53:11 -0800

KFFL has learned Arizona Cardinals C Al Johnson's four-year contract is worth $17 million. He will receive a signing bonus between $3 million and $3.5 million with $3.5 million in base salary for every year of the deal.

Probably not much guaranteed, but if Al's healthy, he can probably play out this contract, IMO.

good luck to him, I did feel comfortable with him as a backup.
Hopefully we can pull a decent center backup in FA or the draft though I haven't really heard that much about centers from the combine but I guess they aren't that sexy.

Samson Satele from Hawaii was a guy the Cowboys spoke to a few weeks ago. According to various reports, he can play Center and Guard.

Not really sure which round is fair value for him, however.

I really, really like him. Great motor. Needs to get stronger.

He projects to 3rd, maybe 4th. If a team has a need he might go early 3rd.

I think he is the #2 center. 5th is probably late for him. Maybe he falls to there if some team has Datish ahead of him.

If Al plays out the deal he will have made only a little less than Gurode over that 4 year period.

I thought he was useless. His inability to keep NT's from pushing into the backfield, overshadowed any pass blocking skills he displayed.

Your are correct. If they both last four years under their new contracts, Gurode will have pocketed $18 million, and Johnson will have pocketed $17 million.

if Al starts for them, do we get a compensatory pick?

you're probably right, that's why I also said 4th round :D

Adam can you verify if compensation is based on players signed or former picks signed? It was my impression that the players mattered only if you had picked them or assumed their rookie contracts. While you are at it can you clarify if where a guy was picked makes a difference?

Which team drafts a player, or in what round, is completely irrelevant.

you want someone with a mean streak and attitude on the OL.........he can be had in the 6th or 7th......C Lyle Sendlein Texas
