I'm having a little tingling in my thumb and am thinking I'm getting a bit of the carpal tunnel since I'm on the computer for so long.

Anyone have any experience with wrist supports that they have used that work well while typing? I know there are a bunch out there.

They do help. Search the internet for other options. Addressing this the earlier is better.

I've seen some stretches to do for it, but aside from that, any suggestions?

My mom ended up having surgery for it a long time back and I certainly don't want to get to that point.

I thought I was but after going to the doctor they said no. However after taking blood test there was a positive on the ANA (antinuclear antibody) so I was referred to another doctor where they have been running a series of other blood test and still waiting on the results of those.

I knew one lady that I used to work with that got it. She ended up quitting her job and got a non-computer related job. I don't know if that was an over-reaction or she had it that bad.

Look up ergonomics.

I already use a gel mouse pad. I'm just thinking that this may not be enough and I should look for a wrist wrap/glove/brace of some sort.

How you sit may also effect carpal tunnel. It hasn't been proven, but good posture has been shown to improve carpal tunnel. Something to do with the spine.

Apparently it isn't preventable.

Take tumeric, Omega-3 fatty acids and/or Vitamin B also.

The mainstay for initial treatment for carpal tunnel is to use a splint that holds your wrist straightish while you sleep. You can usually buy them OTC. Often dealing with the issue at sleep is more effective than dealing with it during the day. It takes about 4-6 weeks to see if you respond.

The ergonomics Reality suggested should help with wrist strain.

The correlation between keyboarding/mouse use and actual carpal tunnel syndrome is not as high as most people think. Some of it is age, some is genetics, some is the shape of your wrist, some is occupational (especially people who do more heavy, manual labour with tools that vibrate), some is due to other diseases (renal failure, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis) and it can also be due to trauma.

If you get on top of it early, you have a good chance of settling it down.
