Driven to Impress

By Marc Lachapelle of MSN Autos

Like it or not, life in the modern era requires you to make a big first impression if you want to be considered successful. And nothing says you're a winner like rolling up to your next date or important event in a crazy, sexy, cool automobile. People notice the brand, the model, the color, the shape, the sound and even the smell of another person's set of wheels, and driving a clunker just doesn't scream "rock star." The car you drive says a great deal about your values, tastes and achievements, about the things you believe in and the way you live your life. So when you have to put your best foot forward, here are 10 cars packing the biggest punch, and the events that call for each one.

Don't laugh at some of the choices....:D

Kia's scream "I'm 16 and my parents don't love me enough to provide me with a safe automobile" more than they scream "success."

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that, in this economy, the one that is paid off.

What do I win?

:)

Much of this will depend on your age and what kind of success you are trying to show off.

I've always liked the BMW 335i, myself for its elegance and driving prowess. Not too much bling and reasonably affordable for a successful fellow.

I hope to someday attain the success of which you speak of. Depending on how aggressive I choose to be, I'll be paid off within the next year preferably the next six months.

In the book, "The Millionaire Next Door", the most popular vehicle of the interviewed people whose net assets exceed a million bucks was the Ford F-150. Not very flashy to anyone but truck owners.

that book is a little dated

That Jaguar at the end was nice. Other than that, not much else.

My Honda Civic was better than half the cars on that list.

Those options are horrible. Apart from the ridiculously expensive cars which, of course, scream success. I wouldn't even consider the 'value' choices from that list. And the Tesla screams '******bag.'

The first thing I thought of when I first read the OP was the books,The Millionaire Mind and The Millionaire next Door By Thomas J. Stanley.

Beat me to it :D

This makes sense.

The majority of people who are smart enough to accumulate a million plus in assets are also smart enough to realize what a tragically horrible investment automobiles are.

I went through the 'new car every three years' phase a few years ago. Right now I have a Grand Cherokee that I look forward to paying off and driving until the wheels fall off.

That crap was all over the place. How the hell do you put a Kia Soul and a freaking McLaren F1 in the same list?

These articles are just like magazine articles. They just group a bunch of people around a conference table and invent content rather than doing any type of real research that produces meaningful information.

You should do some research before saying stupid things.
