• After missing the first two weeks of the season with a knee injury, Alabama running back Mark Ingram returned to action on Saturday in Heisman form against Duke. He rushed for 151 yards on just nine carries (16.8 yards per carry) and scored two touchdowns. Did you expect anything less? The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Ingram has drawn comparisons to former Dallas Cowboys' great and NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, mainly due to his patience, running style and vision. With Ingram in the lineup, the No. 1 Crimson Tide are at full strength and poised for another national championship run.
A lot is made of the 6-6, 236-pound Mallett's stature and how it could work against him at the next level. But against Georgia, a tough SEC opponent that usually features an aggressive defense, scouts wanted to witness Mallett's poise and leadership qualities. And they weren't disappointed. Mallett torched the Bulldogs, just as he did last year when he threw for 408 yards and five touchdowns in a loss. Last week he completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns.
• Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan is starting to get the credit he deserves as a top-tier defender. At 6-4, 263, Kerrigan is the ultimate lunch-pail type of defender; he plays every down with maximum effort and gets the most out of his ability. Coming off of a breakout junior season in which he registered 66 tackles, 18.5 for a loss and 13 sacks, Kerrigan is off to a tremendous start this season by collecting a sack in each of the Boilermakers' first three games.
