LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has been hired at Kansas, where he'll try to rebuild a program that won the Orange Bowl just a few years ago but floundered under Turner Gill.

Weis will be introduced during a news conference Friday on campus

Weis is wrapping up his first season as offensive coordinator at Florida after spending one season directing the Kansas City Chiefs' offense. But his most extensive college experience came with the Fighting Irish, where he went 35-27 in five seasons before he was let go.

Yep, I dunno why some Kansas fans are against this. I know Weis has his flaws but it's not like they were going to land a big-time established coach or a current hotshot coordinator.

I bet this is a total disaster on both sides.

Which wouldn't be any sort of step backwards from where they've been over the last few years.

I hope he does well and gets that team to look like they can actually suit up without getting laughed at.

Side note, does KU have an infatuation with fat coaches? Sure, they went on a diet with Turner for a couple of seasons but it's looks like they fell of the health-kick wagon.

I think this is a good move but I will say a big part of the job as a HC in college is the ability to recruit players that is a skill in and of itself. You can have all the x and o knowledge but you need to give kids a reason why they should choose Kansas to play football.

Most around here are pretty excited about this move.

Think about this, KU is now paying for three HC's in Mangino, Gill and Weis this year.

Big 12 has a lot of high profile coaches in it. Kansas has nowhere to go but up, they should be patient with Weis, it certainly makes them more attractive to recruiting then they had been.

OSU
Kansas St
Baylor
Oklahoma
TCU
Texas
WVU
Iowa St.
Texas Tech
Kansas

That's a pretty tough and competitive conference heading into 2012, seven out of ten presently ranked in the BCS, just playing in the Big 12, even on a rebuilding team, is appealing to players wanting some press clippings and the challenge of good competition.

This was a money saving hire all the way, now they can just give him all of Mangino's old clothes.

It is amazing how things look so differently when you look back through time. Charles Barkley was highly upset that Auburn did not hire Turner Gill instead of Gene Chizik. Gill was a very hot prospect at the time and Chizik was 5-19 in his two years at Iowa St. Chizik goes on to win a BCS title with Auburn while Gill goes 5-19 with KU. Situations are so different and has an impact on production.
