It is just because there are other options of people close to Jerry....Zimmer, Moore, etc. Even Deion or handing the job to Witten wouldn't surprise me at all. Going and getting a guy like Joe Whitt Jr who Jerry knows from coaching here, but is seeing his stock trending up would make sense. Schottenheimer is surprising simply because its such a tough sell to the fanbase. At least Dave Campo had good years in Dallas on championship teams. So many other guys that are candidates that would have at least been passable to the majority of fans. Zimmer has the experience. Moore had top offenses here in Dallas. Deion brings in major money. Witten was loved by this fanbase. What does Schottenheimer bring other than obedience?

as i said in another thread, if this FO had a good plan and reason for hiring him...i would listen because we dont know what he could do as a HC....but thats not the case he is being hired because he is the only one who would take the job with the current stips on it:
A; will you take Jason as the hier apparent staright from HS coaching
B: will you take a contract that LITERALLY no other viable HC would take..

That doesnt inspire confidence.
