Every head coach in the NFL (almost) can be traced back to three men! Parcells, Walsh, and Schottemheimer! Check it out.

Parcells - Belichek - Coughlin - Crennell

Belicheck - Saban - browns 91-94.

Coughlin - Capers 99-00

Parcells got Nolan in there for the Jets in 00 as GM
____________________________________________________

Walsh - there are many coaches affiliated with him or Seifert...then holmgren...here is the list...

Walsh - Seifert - Green 1979 - Billick - 79,80 - guess that is where they met -

Seifert - Holmgren - Shanahan 92-94, Fischer 92,93, Mora 92-94, Gruden 1990,

Holmgren - Reid, also coached together at Brigham Young in 1982, didnt know that - Gruden 92-94, Mariucci 92-95, Mike Sherman, Jauron, that's alot of people!

Green - Billick - Del Rio - Ravens, Marvin Lewis - Ravens, Nolan - Ravens, Tice

__________________________________________________________

Schottemheimer - Cower 2 times, K.C. Browns - Dungy 89-91 KC- Edwards 90-95 K.C. coach

Cower - Haslett - Mularkey - Marvin Lewis, Capers,

Dungy - Edwards, Lovee Smith

minor tree

Norv Turner,,,yeah Norv Turner...can you believe it?

Turner - Nolan 97-99 in Washington as DC coordinator and Mike Martz was there too in 97 and 98 as a quarterbacks coach.

That's most of the coaches in the NFL...pretty interesting if you ask me...I have heard of the good old boys network but this is something else!

i know...thought i would just have him on there...he will be back soon anyway....

I know Weiss is not in the NFL... but I thought I would give him honorable mention

thanks...I guess we can see why parcells give marty so much respect...really i think there are only two coaches not on this list ...gibbs and vermeil...there could be one or two more i dont know...i think that is it...

john fox too...almost had a connection with him but didnt work out

Think about how many coaches had a connection with Landry.
That is the way it always has been- the great coaches have great staffs who quite often become great Head Coaches as well.

There was a similar type of tree back in the 80s with Paul Brown and Tom Landry as almost every head coach had been a disciple of one of them at some time in the past as well as a ton of college head coaches.

What does the Gibbs coaching tree look like? Just curious. I know he managed to pull in a lot of his former assistant coaches. I'd just like more cannon fodder to rub it in with those Skins fans.

Gibbs coaching tree?......They are at present all on the sideline with him in Washington. :)

Schottenheimer and Vermeil and that whole tree go back to Coryell. So you are right. There are three offenses basically in the NFL.

You can still make the Landry connection with Shannahan...He coached under Dan Reeves (Landry deciple) in Denver before going to SF.

My thoughts also. At one time there were 6 head coaches in the NFL, who had started their coaching carrers under Landry. And all, or most were successful.
You can have coaches coming from a winning team, but how was their success.

yes Reeves was under Landry and he got Shanahan started....so was Ditka, who got Fischer started...who coached under Buddy Ryan at Philly and in Chicago...

Gibbs has no current NFL coaches in the NFL

Yes there are coaches that have their roots from Don C in the 70's....

Basically Holmgren, Billick and Cower are the new Walsh's, Bill P and Marty S of football.....ALOT of defensive coaches came from Pittsburgh...ALOT...more than you would ever think....but who are the future coaches in the future?

I say we have a few of them...Payton is about to get a job...he came from Fassel...so did John Fox....Todd Bowles IMO will get a job one day....Zimmer will get one...Jimmah had a good tree going until it got axed recently...Butch Davis, Dave W., Dave Campo, Norv Turner....Norv is the only one left....not for long though....
