I've tried the Chili in almost every place I can think of here in NY area and they all suck. Canned Chili isn't exactly great, but some are better than others. That too in NY sucks. The best they have is Hormel Chili and that is horribly bad. (un-edible)

Well, why is it different on May 21st? Because on May 21st there is Texas Chili to be had! The Lone Star Chili Cook Off.

Finally, I can get some good Chili in NY that I didn't have to make myself. ...but (sigh) it's already sold out this year. I wish I had known about it earlier. :(

You should just consider making some Chili yourself. Might be a little tough to get some decent fixens in NY but I bet you could manage if you really wanted to make some up. We make our chili using Red Chili Pods but you can also use something like Bueno Red Chili or a good Chili Powder. You could actually make some decent chili in a crockpot pretty easily.

I do make my own chili. (if I couldn't, I would be forced to move back to Texas!) Could be better though as I do use chili powder as I cannot get my hands on good chilis from a local grocery store. All other ingredients are fresh though.

My wife makes some killer chili but she won't make it during the summer. She uses one of those 2 alarm chili mixes and adds hot rotel to it. It adds a nice kick to the chili. :)

I worked for a place in Dallas that had a chili cook off each year for Halloween. They would break the office up into teams of 6-8 people and give each team $50 to spend on making the chili. Each team would meet usually the night before Halloween get all the ingredients for the chili and a bunch of beer, then head to someones house to make the batch.

On Halloween day, the 10-12 teams would put their chili on our huge conference table, and the company would bring in 3 impartial judges to pick the best batch. After the judges finished, it was a free for all to get your own. My god there was some good chili made for this event every year.

Good times.

That is exactly what I like to do but the wife can't handle the heat so I usually have to make 2 batches if I want some with some spice.

Think I'll make some tonight. Go home at lunch and start it maybe. Sounds pretty good about now.

All chili in NY would suck!

Come down to the Southwest...New Mexico, Arizona, Texas...etc.

That's what you call real chili...
