Top ten in 2027 when all we are adding this year are two firsts and a bunch of day three picks? Oh, and a weak batch of possible free agents.

I like Parker and was on the hype train for him last year but there is only so much a coach can do when you are counting on guys like James and Carson to become high quality players.

I’m hopeful, but I don’t think we have the basis for a top ten defense in three years considering we only have a single pro bowl player.

There’s also FA. Most likely the day 3 gets you a backup or two. Sometimes you get lucky but not often. But if we add 2 good defensive players in the draft and 2 in FA? Then you have a decent group. We can’t likely get the top FA but several safeties better than Wilson was are available. There’s some LB’s in the FA class that could help. There’s keys is look at who you know you can’t get in draft. I don’t see a safety worth taking falling to us. So go sign a safety that is better than Wilson was. That’s an upgrade. Get a couple of guys and if you stay healthy it possible. The difference in our defense last year and the middle of the league defense is 7 points a game. Then next year you add 2-3 more guys in draft. And maybe new staff can develop some of what we already have too

This is a remarkably weak free agency group, especially on the defensive side.

Yeah it will be painful changing mindset, but you have to start somewhere.

You live with the cards you are dealt. If it is a weak group, then you make the best of a weak group, but you work free agency as now part of your mindset.

The most important part for me is not to reach. Go with the best player on the board.

If you a building a team go with the best player, who loves football and has no issues. Injuries, midget brain, etc. At least after a few years you will have built up your youth to compete.

The problem with the Cowboys is they selected youth who can't compete. This in my mind is what has killed them. It's great to get pro-bowlers, but can we just get starters who are middle of the league average instead of bottom of the league fodder?

True, but I want to make sure that Dallas selects best dedicated football players available and not focusing on measureable physical traits or roster need.
