  • I'm not sure Quinn is as much of a top candidate as some seem to think. Only one permission request for him so far, he had six last year, but IMO, his best shot now may be with Jerry if MM is fired. He signed a multi-year extension with Jerry in January 2022. Interestingly, if it's the standard for coordinators, which is 3 years, his contract would expire the same year MM after the 2024 season.
  • FYI....he CAN NOT leave or interview for another DC job w/o Jerry's permission, HC, yes.
  • It appears no interest in Kellen for HC vacancies (we are not hearing of any permission request ) but his situation is interesting. Just my opinion, he's definitely a top 5 OC. Since five new head coaching jobs mean five new OCs ( not to mention OC fired or hired as HC ), I'm guessing he will get multiple offers to lateral to another as OC BUT he is still under contract until the end of the 2023 season. This is where it gets a little sticky, I'm sure wants security for his family. Any offer from a new team will likely include the standard 3-year deal. The problem is he can't interview or leave w/o Jerry's permission or blessing. The question is will Jerry grant it or force him to stay like he did Bill Callahan? Hard to say but I honestly think Jerry would let MM make the call.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The NFL is a brutal business. No day exemplifies that more than "Black Monday," the period immediately following the end of the regular season, when teams cut their losses, namely in the form of underperforming head coaches.

The cull can be widespread: last year, eight teams changed coaches. Some switches have worked better than others: Joe Judge's dismissal opened the door for Brian Daboll to take over the Giants, and he proceeded to lead New York to a playoff spot in his first year in charge.

On the other end, the Broncos replaced Vic Fangio with Nathaniel Hackett, who couldn't even last a full season in the Mile High City before getting the boot.

This is a time of great intrigue around the league as the coaching carousel spins anew. This year's Black Monday should be no exception: a number of coaches, including the Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury, are believed to be on the hot seat.

Jerry appears to have his mind settled on the idea that MM will most likely return in 2023. Of course, there's always a possibility that in the event of a catastrophic playoff result this year, Jerry might change his mind. I'm hoping the Cowboys will shock the world and manage to defeat Tom Brady in that contest. I believe he'll be retained if the Cowboys manage to offer an impressive battle in that game. Go get 'em, Cowboys and beat the Bucs!

The longer KMoore turns down interviews......eventually the phone stops ringing. But he's got the HC job to inherit here. Big Mike should watch at all times.

Kellen’s problems are not easy to see from the treetops, it’s more of a nuanced issue. He lacks a good feel for the game and doesn’t have a strong identity. Seems like he just calls plays to call plays.

However, with a top 3 offense statistically back to back years it’s not hard to see why nationally he’d be seen as a top 5 coordinator. Anyone who coaches that statistical output will be regarded highly.

As fans, we see his issues firsthand play by play. But you’d be surprised at how much bad coaching there is in the NFL. Shoot, even rams fans were complaining about McVay this year. There’s not a lot to choose from coaching wise so kind of by default the dude who’s coordinating a top offense back to back years is going to be propped up.

I think Moore has 3 people to please, Booger, McC and Prescott and McC is the odd man out.

Ever heard of a HC saying he had no control or input with his OC in a playoff game? Me neither. Especially one that was an OC.

Moore is there to take his marching orders from the owner and when he decided to give his QB that contract, he also decided he would have to be the star of the team. I have no idea how Moore would call the games differently without this dynamic but I have no doubt he's Booger's guy and doing the job to please his boss.

The NFL Coaching Carousel Is Already in Full Swing

Black Monday marks the official beginning of head coaching searches across the NFL, and there’s already plenty of developments to sort through.

- As a top HC candidate, Quinn could be coveting the idea, desired HC gig, ..not just any given gig.

- For instance, the Houston Texans HC is going to be a very high risky job that is already among a toxic environment.
I just do not see a reputable HC candidate taking on that role in that kind of place.

- Here with the Cowboys, I just could not see Quinn trying to force himself out as an unhappy DC, ala asking his contract release unless It’s major severe internal issues.
Quinn was given permission to interview for Broncos HC last year – just as Kellen interviewed for the Dolphins HC.

- I don’t see Jerry being insult in arrogantly insulting is denying pending coaches a chance at advancing as HC’s.

- Here's where i could see it getting sticky with Quinn... what if Jerry pushes hard for Sean Payton, who has been rumored linked to a strong preference for DC Vic Fangio ?
Does Jerry tried to convince Payton to keep Quinn,. .instead of hiring on Payton's DC choice in Fangio ?
Is retaining DC Quinn worth Not acquiring Payton ? .. (if the Payton- Jerry love rumors are true)

Black Monday marks the official beginning of head coaching searches across the NFL, and there’s already plenty of developments to sort through.

- Only way i can see Kellen released from his current contract and OC role is Sean Payton becoming HC and instantly insistent in running HIS offense here.
Not Kellen's...

- Could there be a scenario where Kellen becomes Pete Carmichael 2.0 .. who was Payton's longtime X's and O's communicator role ?

- and its' strongly assumed that Kellen has been heavily rewarded with a huge contract extension to remain primary OC. So why would we given up high draft picks investments
for Payton, only to allow Kellen to keep his offense ?

I guess there is a really stupid GM out there who would hire a OC with only a couple of years coaching IN TOTAL for a HC

We have seen dumb hires (Jerry and Ginger for one) so anything is possible for a really stupid GM

That was the extension deal i was referring to when he re-signed up only awhile back.

If Payton comes here, and desired to have his own OC, we'd have to eat that Kellen contract with a year remaining, and immediately release him from it.
Just me Quick but I just don't see Payton coming here AT ALL. I think it's now water under the bridge. He's now waaay out of Jerry's price range. As stated in another thread, IF we move one from MM, I think Quinn will be his replacement.
