OT likely turning OG, likely 2nd rounder. What are your opinions of him
I’m lukewarm on him. He has really nice feet but needs more strength. He needs to play in an outside zone to be his best. Definitely not a gap scheme and really, there are better guys for an inside zone like Solari and Schottenheimer will run… although I’m sure some outside zone runs are going to still be in the playbook.
I’d be happy with him in the third round. IMO, there will be better players available at Dallas’ second round pick. Obviously, I want nothing to do with him at 26.
He isn’t bad, he just isn’t going to be the right guy for Dallas, I think.
I’ve been wrong before though, so you never know. These days, I trust the team’s evaluations, so I’ll just let them decide.
I would move him back to TE...OT likely turning OG, likely 2nd rounder. What are your opinions of him
Well, I don’t really trust a media member on that. It is likely that he said that because outside zone is what they primarily ran last year.I saw from one media member earlier this year that they would primarily run outside zone. I searched to see if I could find it but did find an article on what schemes teams were running from 2021 which is just after Schottenhiemer was fired with Solari still there in Seattle.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
2020 Pass Efficiency Rank: 12
2020 Rush Efficiency Rank: 11
The Seahawks eschewed Brian Schottenheimer in favor of Shane Waldron, who they plucked from Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams to be their new offensive coordinator. Waldron can’t just come in and copy/paste the Rams' offense. He is confined by the elite yet mercurial play of quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Seahawks have already become a heavy outside zone team, as they finished ninth in usage of that run scheme last year. The run scheme and marrying the boot action to that run scheme won’t change, as Wilson excels when he can get outside of the pocket. What will change is the Rams' tendency to call quick in-breaking routes for Jared Goff. That’s not quite what Wilson wants to do. Wilson does not want to throw over the middle, so it will be interesting to see the give and take in the quick and dropback passing games.

But they did use a lot of outside zone at Seattle where they both were at most recently. It's also where the league has been trending according to the article I posted.Well, I don’t really trust a media member on that. However, the team hasn’t just come out and said that they’d be running inside zone, so for all I know they could be planning on using more OZ. It would be a little surprising though because both Schottenheimer and Solari have run mostly IZ in the past, though they still used OZ at times.
They will use both of course, which is good IMO because the team does well with OZ too… but if I had to guess, I’d say schott and Solari will primarily use IZ. Also, the team has said it wants to have a power running game, which is more typically associated with IZ.
You could be right though. We will just have to wait and see I suppose.
Yeah, they may do a lot of OZ, for all I know. But just like that year went against their history, they’ll be going against the grain a little if they do it here. But they did use a lot of outside zone at Seattle where they both were at most recently. This article, from PFF as the one you posted was, is from February of this year, when Dallas made Schottenheimer their OC. In it, they say:But they did use a lot of outside zone at Seattle where they both were at most recently. It's also where the league has been trending according to the article I posted.
