With all of the ongoing talk of conference realignments, I thought some of you might enjoy this link that ranks each college sports program (with by far most emphasis on football) based on number of criteria and then gives it a value for realignment.

http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-footba...football-conference-realignment-teams-schools

I got a kick out of it.
There are many ways you can place value ona program and this guy takes into account all of the obvious ones.

Athletic Dept Total Revenue (includes TV and all else)
Football Success (includes 2/3 recent and 1/3 very long term)
Other Sports Success (see Director's Cup)
Football Attendance
Academics
Market related stuff (TV market, etc)

How they do it is debatable but from those I know in touch with the ADs and presidents, this is at least close to how they look into it.

You can see, based on this rough ranking, why certain teams have been sought after and others not as much.

Here are the top 20 according to this article. It's not set in stone but it's interesting nevertheless. They rank all D-1 programs.
You can read the rest via the link.

  1. Texas
  2. Florida
  3. Ohio State
  4. Michigan
  5. Penn St
  6. USC
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Alabama
  9. Texas A&M
  10. Georgia
  11. UCLA
  12. Wisconsin
  13. California
  14. North Carolina
  15. Auburn
  16. Tennessee
  17. Oklahoma
  18. LSU
  19. Stanford
  20. Florida State

For overall value, I would have thought LSU would be higher. But it's just a go-by anyway.

Surprised to see UCLA that high. They havent been very good in football or basketball recently and their AD is in the financial tank. Their academics and market must really be carrying them here.

Just hit the link. It tells what the scores are for eac school in every category. They seem to be a bit off in some academic rankings and maybe in the football rep category. The other areas are just numbers.
As for Ucla, do,nt forget their overall athletic program is always top 5 or so.

They were
34 in revenue
33.67 in football rep
10 in all-sports
11 in academics
28 in attendance
15 in market
