Commanders show interest in Adams

Time to go back to another Commanders item that didn’t make the cut on Donovan McNabb Day. According to CSN Washington, Commanders GM Bruce Allen told SIRIUS Radio on Tuesday that the team has contacted the agent for former Cowboys offensive tackle Flozell Adams.

For the Commanders, kicking the tires on the five-time Pro Bowler makes sense. Following the retirement of Chris Samuels, there’s no in-house replacement on the roster. Holding the No. 4 pick in the draft, it’s also a possibility the Commanders won’t get a shot at the highest-rated left tackle, Russell Okung, without trading up. In fact, three of our draft analysts believe Okung will go No. 2 to the Lions (here’s the latest mock from Charles Davis).

There could be a market for Adams. Following his release from the Cowboys late last week, three teams contacted his agent to express interest for next season, reported Clarence Hill of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram.

NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi suggested to me that the Commanders and Bears are the two teams that have the biggest need. If Adams doesn’t land somewhere in the next two weeks, the market for his services will be more clear coming out of what is considered to be a draft very heavy in tackle talent.

Good. Sign him.

Let the skins sign as many guys who will just lay down in the heat of battle as they want.

If Jared Allen could make Flo tap his helmet indefinitely, Ware is going to make the guy retire on the spot.

Actually, the Commanders signing Flo would make good sense. He would fill an immediate need and can still play at a high level. As a stop-gap, with no one waiting to step in yet, he makes perfect sense.

For that reason it's likely they will pass. :lmao2: :skins:

Once again the Commanders are signing up the big name FA's. The Skins will be better this season. Just hope we still sweep them.

I think both the skins and the bears showing interest should be expected. Both have problems at the line and Flo can still do the job better than many at LT.

I'd rather they not. If they sign Adams they could draft one of the better rookie tackles and instead of having that guy play LT, he could play RT. They'd be upgrading two OL spots.

Yeah they'll improve from 4-12 to a "respectable" 4-12 :laugh1:

I don't want to see him go to the Skins. He will improve that team. Maybe the Bears will make a better offer.

That would be a great pickup for the Skins... I guess, Jerry's is trying to get a LT to drop to 27!

Maybe if he cuts Romo, Sam Bradford will fall too!

As I posted in another thread, the Commanders o-line situation is so bad that Flo would easily be the best tackle on the roster

At 4 draft Okung, and the o-line goes from "terrible, awful, D-3 quality" to "serviceable NFL quality o-line"

Okung will be a ROOKIE and get his lunch taken from him on a regular basis. He may be good down the road but this year McFlabb will be on the run a lot.. Flo is on of my fav but he can't block DWare.. I think your Oline is gonna be terrible again this year..

I like Flo. Always have and always will. Clearly he's past his prime and all that but this would be a nice pick up for them for most of the year. Of course it will work out great for us as well cause Ware will beat him to death the two times we play them.

It's a win win as far as I'm concerned.

Why would Okung get his lunch taken? If anything, a rookie OT that is any good, comes in and plays at a high level.

Jon freakin Jansen in his 2nd game in 1999 was taking care of business against Mike Strahan

Chris Samuels was a stud from game 1 in 2000.

Jake Long, Joe Thomas both outstanding from game 1. Ryan Clady

And Shanahan isn't Zorn. He isn't going to ever single block Ware.

Give me something much better then that weak sauce :lmao2:

No, by all means let Demarcus get the double teams constantly. Anthony Spencer, who averaged a sack a game for the last 8 games, would love you to only keep in one TE or RB to pick up Demarcus. Ask McSacked how much he liked taking 3 sacks in the back to back games from Spencer.

But sure man, sure. You're rookie offensive lineman going into a zone blocking scheme is going to have no problems whatsoever with the best linebacker in the entire NFL. :lmao2:

McNabb must think going from a crappy offensive line that surrendered 38 sacks to an even worse offensive line that gave up 46 sacks despite the dink and dunk quick passes is somehow going to prolong his career. 10 games. McNabb will only be playing 10 games total in 2010 because your offensive line is going to get him killed and lord knows he hasn't had injury issues in the past.

One player, even one as good as Okung, can't make that big a difference... you'd still be looking at Dockery and Williams as your guards, and neither one of them is suited for Shanny's cut blocking techniques (I think they both have somebody on retainer to tie their shoes, LOL)... even with Russell, Artis Hicks is your second best lineman...

Problem...
