Conflicting Reports about Garrett

Waking up this morning, I was under the impression we had hired him with no title yet given to him. That, at least, is what ESPN was saying.

So why are these artilce from the DMN, and Miami Herald claiming that Garrett must inform Miami of a decision by the end of the busniess day today, and that he was in to talk yesterday, but nothing else happened.

On top of all that, I see that we are going to interview Phillips, but not today?

This all just seems a little funny to me. To bring in a young guy who originally was a candidate to be OC, and hire him with no title before interviewing any other outside candidates, and then claiming we will interview someone else but not until later in the week.

I just hope this thing works out, and we don't end up with Garrett and Phillips accepting raises/extensions from Miami and San Diego.

Is there ANY credible source that we signed Garrett?

Define credible coach :D

They have subscribed to the throw it on the wall theory on who our next HC will be.

Are you available for interviews? ;)

My thinking is that the 'boys want to hire him. They've offered him an undefined position on the staff. Garrett has not accepted yet and therefore has not informed the Fins of his decision.

And if the team is to interview Phillips that means Garrett is not ready to become a HC. BTW, there are conflicting reports on the Phillips thing as well. One article says they requested permission. Another says they haven't contacted either SF or SD.

The latest article I seen said that they had contacted and received permission to talk to Wade...and that was said by A.J. Smith so I take that as finally something concrete instead of reporter speculation.

Honestly I feel like I'm getting information overload. I'm taking a hands off approach until something solid actually occurs. Trying to figure out what's going on makes me want to actually work to get my mind off the Cowboys. :)

Any chance they can keep us guessing until the combine? or the start of Free Agency?

We can keep hiring people, then the day before Free Agency we can announce the finialized staff and each Coaches' Position on the staff.

I just hate the LOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGG wait from the Super Bowl to March 2.

:D

If Jerry does indeed hire JG as the Head Coach of the Cowboys. I would venture to guess that would rule out bringing in Phillips as DC. Also I was looking at the 49'ers site. Singletary is listed as Asst head coach/defense, so my question on that is doesn't he have to get a promotion in title to be eligible to move? I realize that they are interviewing Campo for the Def Coord position, so I'll be the first to admit I'm hazy on this.. And wouldn't this also apply to bringing in Norv if Garrett is signed as HC?

At least the offseason is interesting right now...normally we would already be bored from excessive draft talk.:D

No way will San Diego let Phillips come to Dallas as the defensive coordinator that would be a stupid move.

We could bring back the Ware vs Merriman threads :D

I need you to go down and sign for the Western Union Telegram I am sending you.

I will only write on it...please slap the guy that comes for this telegram. :laugh1:

On a serious note, those may start picking up again IF Wade is hired...I just hope he can help this D become more agressive.

I wouldn't necessarily jump to that conclusion yet, WG.

Put yourself in Jerry's shoes.

You may be convinced that Garrett can do the job, but why not bring in Phillips and/or Turner for the interview?

What have you got to lose?

The only investment on your part is a few hours of your time.

It may turn out that in talking to Phillips you see that you need more experience at the HC position (Phillips may discuss strategy in such a weighty way that Garrett doesn't seem as attractive as a HC).

All I'm saying is that the most prudent approach is to interview everyone on your short list ... you never know what will come up in an interview.

Dallas is keeping a HUSH-HUSH approach. Why? Because even thought Parcells has retired, he's still the head coach, and working, until Feb. 1. So you know Parcells - nodoby can talk to anybody. Boy I can't wait until his nursing-home mentality leaves Dallas for good.

Yeah me too. That seems to be the best medicine right now.
